Offensive Offer

Well, well, well... How is this for pure, unadulterated crassness?

The following came from jayski.com:
Drivers...throw a helmet, get $15k? TMS president Eddie Gossage said ticket sales for the Sprint Cup Samsung 500 on April 6 have been flat since Jan. 1, then made an announcement he hopes will increase the buzz. "I'm offering $15,000 to any driver who throws their helmet between now and the Samsung 500," Gossage said. The conditions: the helmet must be tossed in anger on the "field of competition," according to Gossage. And Gossage gets the helmet for his extensive office collection. While he acknowledged it was a tongue-in-cheek offer, he said he would definitely pay. NASCAR officials did not immediately return messages seeking comment.(Dallas Morning News)(3-1-200 Comment here

Tongue-in-cheek, or not, encouraging bad behaviour is wrong on a whole lot of levels. Gossage and his employer, SMI, should be censured by NA__AR for this one, IMNSVHO.

Really bad form, what?

Agreed. They talked about that on trackside earlier. Sickening.

Re: Offensive Offer

first thing that popped into my head .... this is a prime example of what people mean when they say "There is no such thing as bad publicity"

people will talk about his offer and therefore him and his holdings for days at a minimum .... and all for the cost of a few words

The only worse publicity stunt I can immediately think of is the one on the old "WKRP in Cincinnati" where they threw frozen turkeys out of a helicopter for Thanksgiving and the falling frozen missiles hurts several people.
