Is NASCAR Pricing Themselves Out Of Business

Sprint is losing billions so who knows how long they will remain as Cup Series sponsor

many individual teams are finding it too tough to stay alive .... and driver/owners are almost totally gone

there is an obvious gape between the haves and have nots within the ownership group

team sponsors come and go .... and in some cases drivers drive with blank cars begging for a sponsor

race purses are getting larger .... and sponsors come and go for those as well

it just seems to me something large is going to give financially maybe sooner rather then later

I can't argue that.

But I really think that sports in general are going to get a big wake up call in the next 10 years.

If the economy keeps going the way it is, individuals and businesses are going to have to make choices.

Choices that may involve some sacrifice. And the first sacrifice is "frivolous" things like sports and other entertainment.

Personally I think NASCAR is one of the few deals that could actually reduce their budget and produce a better product. So much of the budget is spent on non race related activites.

Good racing will sell itself.

Totally agree with your last. However, I think you will find that most of the off track stuff you refer to (Parades, entertainment, fly-overs, etc., etc.), is provided by the track and/or the community where the track is located.

I believe that was what you were referring to, anyway.

There's a start to a solution right there. Reduce the purses and make this whole thing less about the damn money.
