California Synopsis

I don't want to infringe on Duck's weekly thoughts on the last Cup race so I'll just throw out a couple of brief thoughts:

(a) Horribly mismanaged. Two ancillary races in one day, leaving to time to reschedule events (qualifying) if necessary... Starting a race in obviously dangerous conditions (water seepage in the turns).

(b) Poor racing. The closest thing I saw to "side-by-side" racing in the admittedly few brief times I sought to torture myself was when one car was hugging the bottom line and the car he was "beside" was inches away from the wall, a full forty (?) feet away?
NA__AR continues to make lame excuses and tries to prop up a failure of a track which, apparently, only a few people in SoCal have any affinity for. For this for a place in a market which apparently idolizes movie people and a selected few stick&ball types but doesn't, as a whole, give a crap about stock car racing.

(c) Inane TV commentary. This morning my wife said, "When you're out this morning, would you go for a carton of milk?" When I her her say "Gopher" I almost slugged her! And we thought Draft Track was as bad as it got?

I would suggest that NA__AR change some things, but lately the word "Change" causes me as much mental distress as "Gopher" does.

This one will rank in there with last year's Kansas race as far as bad memories go.

Take it away, Duck...

I am very mad with Nascar made me stay up till 2 just to cancel! They should have called it at 12 and it would have been alot better move than that

Ah, for the benefits of being a driver fan, vice race fan.

Re: California Synopsis

About your point B, I do have to be fair here. This kind of ride around racing has been expected since I'd say '99, when people realized that the first two races were not just new track jitters. Carl and Jimmie racing for about 2 laps is about as good as it got and will get for Fontana. The racing has been horrible- no, non existant since they first started going there.

The good news is, it's on to almost the exact same place this weekend! It's a half mile smaller, so maybe there will be a few more lapped cars mixed in to make it real exciting!

Re: California Synopsis

I'm gonna just say it. The racing both Cup and NW stunk. The decision making stunk as well!

I can't say it better than Bob did, but I did have to say something.

The difference will be while the waste paper receptacle and swamp at Fontana is 75' wide with 14º banking, the Las Vegas track is 60' wide with 20º variable banking.

I look for much more enjoyable racing this weekend.

Bring back Rockingham, even with the often chilly February weather. It's just the right thing to do and besides, I doubt if Tom Cruise would show up evangelizing Scientology

Youre right, I must be thinking old Vegas racing.

I had no problem going to Rockingham in February. What is it down there 40-50? That's a full 20 to sometimes 40 degrees warmer than it is where I am. That's what it was this weekend in southern cal and nobody had a problem with it. Or did they? You can't tell because NOBODY GOES THERE TO BEGIN WITH NASCAR!....... whew. I guess I should just say it's over, get out of LA ASAP, please and thank you.

Re: California Synopsis

One more thing to add about the TV commentary...I got so tired of hearing Chris Myers say "I kid because I care". Enough already, Chris. We get it.

Re: California Synopsis

One thing I noticed in the broadcast.

Usually they run the ticker at the top to give driver posistion. About every 4th or so they usually show your time back or laps behind.

In the CA race they only showed laps back twice in the whole 500 miles. I wonder if this was a conscience decision with only 21 cars finishing on the lead lap....

Re: California Synopsis

Typical of how the west coast actors & stars don't get it was the stupid comment made by the actor who was suppose to say gentlemen start your engines. Instead he starts with some stupid comment about a lost kid in Busch's right ear????

Oh let's see.... Take away both race dates. Give the Southern 500 back to Darlington on it's traditional date. Give the other date to Kentucky.

If NA$CAR won't do that, we could cause the massive earthquake that could cause Cali to float away from the states

Then they could claim that it's an international date and it's crucial to the sports growth.
