Re: Champ and IRL merge!

While I don't watch open wheel (except for the Indy 500 at times) I think this is a good move! I think it'll benefit both organizations.

Re: Champ and IRL merge!

Really do hope this goes well.

Don't know at this point "what the fans want" any more. We're "Indy cars on oval tracks" exposed and inclined, though we have done road course attendance.

Inclined to expect road courses will at some point make up 50%, likely more, of the events.

Would love to see the Indy 500 back to all it once was. Getting back to a real "bubble day" may be a good indication of a turn around.

We'll see.

Re: Champ and IRL merge!

Let's see... First Tony Stewart tells NA__AR to take a walk and goes to the new series in 2010 with Penske. The drivers from the open wheel invasion get fed up with fighting the Chosen 35 Rule each week and follow suit. Stewarts name alone gets the IRL/CART Series a decent TV deal. Bigger purses and more $ for the Series.

We do live in interesting times.

Re: Champ and IRL merge!

I think open wheel can back on top and I'm sure there will be some Nascar regulars now that will go back. I think even a big name or two will cross over

Re: Champ and IRL merge!

First step is to get some drivers in the series that people recognize, not just hardcore fans.

Second step is to get some drivers in the series that people can pronounce their last name.

Third step is to get some drivers in the series that people saw drive earlier in their career on small tracks in the US.

IF he does, Robbie is really media-savvy. He'll turn his leaving into an event. Unfortunately, Robbie doesn't carry the amount of juice a name like Tony Stewart does. Now THAT would be a major slap in the face to this new version of NA__AR.

Re: Champ and IRL merge!

Seems to me, if the driver's weight were really an issue, they'd all be built like jockeys.
