whats everyones all-time favorite?

I have alot. Anyone who was around, and even if you weren't, you've got to like '79. The first live, flag to flag telecast of a race, and it turned out to be one of the most famous finishes ever.

I also like '84 (I think) When Cale flipped his Chevrolet in turn 2 on his qualifying lap, then pulled out a Pontiac for the 500 and won it.

Then there's '90, when the underdog Whitcomb Racing team with Derrike Cope took advantage of Dale's misfortune to win it.

'97 when the Hendrick cars finished 1-2-3 with Gordon, Labonte and my New England boy Craven. That was back when I didn't have an issue with that team. It was a great race all the way through, and plus it's the one I remember most because it's the only 500 I taped.

'98 for obvious reasons, and Mike Joy did a great job calling it.

I should stop before I defeat the purpose of choosing a favorite.

Ya know, that one almost trumps the King for me. The shame of it all is the Bobby doesn't have any memory of it.

Of course. I should have said that, for the folks here that may not know the history.

That one had it all, a great finish, and the family drama. The events of the years following that just add more to the race.

1976 500. David pearson and Richard petty duels the entire race then crashed on the last last coming out of T4. Both cars were wrecked and Petty couldn't restart his car but Pearson managed to restart his car and struggled across the finish line for the win.

I only remember two 500s clear as day, but for very different reasons.

Favorite, hands down, 1998 when Dale finally won. You will never see every member of every crew greet a winner again.

I think that it could if Mark the kid Martin wins it this weekend. The respect that everybody has for him in the garage is unparalleled. And plus, Dale had won 30- something other races at Daytona prior to finally winning the 500. The only restrictor plate race of any kind Mark has won is a Bud Shootout.

Now THAT'S scary, BBW! I was thinking as I was typing that post that the only other driver who might get such a response would be Martin. I'd love to see it.
