Phil, we'll be at the May 31st race, too! I've never been there, so I'm very excited.

Well, I've been there more times than I can say! The best thing to do on Sunday is to find somewhere other than the track lot to park in. As the time gets closer, get with me on some good spots! I live 9 miles from the track, and know most of the good parking places and back roads!

I'm gonna ride the bike down by there this weekend, and if there is any sign of building, I will post em!

From what I understand, Miles is going to be made somewhere else, then taken apart and put back together on the grounds!

Stay tuned here for progress reports!

Re: New Dover Fanzone, featuring "Miles"

Well, it's not much, but here is a shot of the grounds there! I got lucky, and the usual gate and fencing were not there, so the other pics are just a couple from areas you can usually only go during race weekend!

Pic 1 is all that I got of the new area, not much happening! The pics of my bike are taken right at the gate I go into for the races in June!

You'll enjoy, that's a sure bet. We've done both races there for the last 20+ years. Make sure you've got some form of ear cover/protection. It has some similarity to Bristol from the noise standpoint in that it "bowl-like" due to the stands, the banking, and the track size.

See you'll be coming from the north. If traveling to track on Sunday (raceday) consider picking up Route 9 South just over the Delaware Memorial bridge. Our experience over the past several years is that if you are crossing the bridge at/around 7:30 / 7:45 a.m. on race day, you will not find yourself in lines of traffic. Our first "stop" if you will when using this way to the track, was when we stopped to park our car. Find Leipsic Road off of Rt. 9. It's very near to due East of the track. Brings you in to the "back side" of the track where you will find many parking areas (on grass) that are perhaps a 5 - 10 minute walk to the track. You will enter the same place Phils (think it was him anyway) took pix of his cycle there.

Enjoy!

That is perfect advice on pakring. I park at the Milatary Surplus yard, and it is about a mile to walk to the track, but well worth it. Rt 9 is the only wasy to go!!! Friday and Saturday aren't as bad in the main lots, but Sunday I would never park there. I would go back home first! +

And yes, that is where my pis are from. For me, parking there works out great, since I sit on that side of the track anyway.

Re: New Dover Fanzone, featuring "Miles"

Thanks for all the info on Dover, guys. We'll be there a few days ahead of time because we're bringing the RV. My son is more excited about missing school than seeing the race! (Let's see - racing or school, which will it be? I'm a baaaaad mother! ) I think our seats are about 3 rows from the top just as you're coming off turn 4 going into the front stretch. We'll have our scanner's prepped and ready so my son can report back to his English teacher on all the new vocabulary he learned. (Thank you Robbie Gordon, Jeff Gordon and Jr. for some real interesting phrases last year at Pocono. Wowser!) I'm counting the days, for sure!

Re: New Dover Fanzone, featuring "Miles"

I have included a link from my local newspaper to this thread as a local company is the contractor that is making the Miles statue. They are also one of our clients at my employment.

LancasterOnline.com:Local Business:Monster project for county firm
I like the way they laid out the article and you can click on the photos tab and view a couple of pictures.
