| Re: Top 35 rule given tweaking Bob, I like the 2nd chance qualifing too, but I think the guys that can pull it off on the first try deserve to get the front spots, hense the top 20-25 in first round and the rest of the field in round 2. still get the same cars running but gives the hardest working guys a reward(top 20-25 start and pit pit selection) but also gives a 2nd chance for that flat tire or slip in 1st round. sun up to noon and 2 rounds of qualifing is a long day and leaves no room for the support series so thats where I see my 2 day deal working better.

I can easily agree with your proposal the first rounders get the top spots. My main objective was to offer a logical and economical alternative to the bogus Chosen 35 Rule. Hell, doing completely away with qualifying and simply drawing for starting spots would be preferable to the fiasco we have today! Disagree with your thesis that it leaves no room for a support series event. All which I describe could be done the day before the actual race. Any support race could be run either after the Cup kids get through (on tracks with lights), or do a one day event (qualify then immediately race, as they often do in the CTS) the day prior to Cup qualifying. Doing it this way might even discourage the Cup prima donnas in running Cup Lite? (An unintended consequence?)
