NASCAR could go with consistent starting times for races?

Nascar officials are considering some minor changes, including the implementation of more consistent starting times for races. Nascar has adjusted race times in recent years to benefit television scheduling. There is no telling, however, if consistent start times will bring back fans. "Look, we'd love every single aspect of our business to be on the upswing and perfect," France said when asked about ratings drops and economic issues. "There are business cycles that occur. You talk about ratings. Every sport is down significantly in the ratings. Almost everything is down. American Idol' is down. There's a reason for that. There's lots of new ways to get rich content either over the Internet, over your phone." -- NY Times

Football's not, Mr. France. I just heard that the NFC Championship game was the highest rated in years. How do you explain that?

Re: NASCAR could go with consistent starting times for races?

The starting time of the race isn't what matters to me. It's the coverage after it starts that I care about. I'm gonna watch no matter what time it comes on. I just switch the channel after they start showing one driver riding around regardless of where he's running at and what might be going on somewhere else on the track. Like the one race where they were showing JJ in 15th and showing him for a few laps and an announcer said we have a great battle for the lead, and we're still having to watch JJ in 15th. Crap like that is when I stop watching. I don't care if they change to trying to have the race at the same time every weekend. As long as the coverage sucks like last year, I'll keep changing to something else.

I would love for NASCAR to a constant times. Because if I rush home to catch the start of the Brickyard 400 at 1:30 I don't want to wait until 3:00 or whatever to see the start.

Re: NASCAR could go with consistent starting times for races?

Last year somebody had the website that listed the exact time the races actually started, not the TV time. I accidently somehow deleted all my bookmarks so I sure would appreciate whoever that kind fan was could give the the site again.

I think the rule of thumb is 15-20 minutes after the top of the hour. the only problem is figuring out which hour...
