| Tony Stewart not interested in contract extension? ![]() One thing that hasn't changed, though, is Tony Stewart's contract status. Joe Gibbs Racing officials had hoped to extend Stewart's contract beyond 2009 before the move to Toyota became official. Stewart has said since last year that he's not interested in such talks yet. He wants to focus on racing. How well the Toyota performs will play a role in what Stewart decides. "It's obviously a lot easier to sit back and wait and see what happens and see what direction things go," Stewart said. "But if seeing what we've done so far is any indication, I think they've done a great job already." -- Virginian-Pilot Expectations growing for Junior, Stewart | HamptonRoads.com | PilotOnline.com |

| Re: Tony Stewart not interested in contract extension? If Stewart doesn't stay with Gibbs it could be good for NASCAR. Some fans view him as a gold old American driver. But now he is driving a foreign car. I could be better for the sport if he goes it to Childless or some where like that to drive a Chevy or Ford.

| Re: Tony Stewart not interested in contract extension? Maybe he just figures he still has 2 years left on this contract and there's plenty of time to worry about a new contract after this coming season. |

| Re: Tony Stewart not interested in contract extension? Gee. One month ago today I made the following prediction: "Tony Stewart Soap Opera Tony will delay and delay signing a new contract. Finally, he'll agree to running a part time schedule in 2009 or he'll just leave NA__AR altogether. Reason: What does he have yet to accomplish? Plus his public embarrassment after the spring Phoenix race when he called out NA_+AR on their phony cautions still weights on him. His "sit in the booth to see how things were really done was a humiliation tactic only. I think Tony is ready to runs some big Cup races, run a lot of IRL (IRL needs a name driver and will probably kiss Tony's rather sizable posterior in order to get him) and manage his race tracks." I think I'll stand by it for awhile.

| Re: Tony Stewart not interested in contract extension? I think more then anything he thought that Toyota wouldn't be competitive. I think if they show that they'll be up front and putting out cars that can make it to victory lane, then Tony'll stay. |

| Re: Tony Stewart not interested in contract extension? The Toyota situation is yet to play itself out. Since he hasn't ran a race in the Toyota it is really hard to say how he will truly react to them. Now if 2008 is a banner year his value will have increased. Why sign now if there is a chance that it could be higher. If it isn't a good year then maybe the part time deal will become a reality or he could leave the sport. Time will tell.

| Re: Tony Stewart not interested in contract extension? ![]() Should Cup competition still hold his interest in the future (seems a bit in question), the interest in extension with Gibbs will likely have a bit to do with their success with the Toyo. Headlight decals on the 20 Toyo got our attention. Pix of the other manufacturers show headlight decals that are quite "pedestrian". The Toyos have that - "I'm gonna rip off your head and crap down your neck" - attitude. |

| Re: Tony Stewart not interested in contract extension? I STILL think that the fact he's driving a Toyota plays into the matter only as far as how it might affect his deal with GM and his sprint car program. Until proven wrong, I maintain that Tony is just flat fed up with NA__AR and it's inflated bureaucratic and capricious rule making and enforcement policies. It's not about manufacturers, it's not about competition and it isn't about money. With Tony I think it's about "face" and honour. BTW, Lilsexy... if you any influence with your boy, please tell him to GET A DAMN HAIRCUT! He's starting to look like Joe Sh*t, the Rag Man, and his appearance is more fitting a skid row gutter than Victory Lane. Sonny Crocket made the look work on Miami Vice; with Tony, he just looks like a chubby little bum who might be holding a sign, "Will Drive Fast For Money." |

| Re: Tony Stewart not interested in contract extension? Trust me, Bobby and Donnie, Red Farmer, Neil Bonnet and Dave Mader II NEVER, on their worst day, looked as scruffy as Tony does in the photo in today's Mobile Fishwrapper. He looks like an indigent in line for food at the Salvation Army wearing an orange and black jump suit. |
