Moments of 2007

Racingone.com (a defacto spokesman for ISC/NA__AR) did a poll for the following categories: Here's how they came out. How would the same poll fared here at GTG?
"The fans have spoken and the winners for this year's 2007 RacingOne NASCAR Fan Awards are in."

Biggest Disappointment: Dale Earnhardt Jr.
My vote would be the entire Evernham performance.

Best Confrontation: Kevin Harvick vs. Juan Pablo Montoya
I agree

Best TV Announcer: Mike Joy
I agree 100%

Biggest Surprise Driver: Clint Bowyer
I don't see the surprise. His 2006 season finish was a good predictor of his 2007 season. My vote would be Juan Pablo. He caught on really fast!

Comeback Driver: Bobby Hamilton Jr.
Sorry. My vote is Clint Bowyer. Forteen spots higher in the standings than last season.

Funniest Moment: The Fan who Asked Matt Kenseth for an Autograph
I agree

Most Embarrassing Moment: Michael Waltrip
My vote is for NA__AR's completely flubbing up at Montreal and sticking it in Robbie Gordon then breaking it off. Or maybe NA__AR's decision to restart the Kansas race. That one was a real fiasco.

Best Paint Special Scheme: Kasey Kahne's MOPAR car
I could care less about paint jobs

Owner of the Year:
Rick Hendrick
The guy's a schmuck but you can't argue with success. I also like Robby Gordon in this category

Best Finish:
Daytona 500
It was screwed up but it was exciting

Best Commercial:
Michael Waltrip/NAPA
Nope. Lauren Wallace.

Driver of the Year: Jimmie Johnson
Once more, you can't argue with success

Don't care about the others but the best confrontation was the Roush children,Carl and Matt.

Re: Moments of 2007

Would have to agree with most of them.

Biggest surprise driver- I'd also have to agree with JPM. Who' would've thought he'd pick it up as quick and good as he did.

Most embarrassing moment- I would agree with you Bob. Both of those instances showed the stupidity and inconsistencing of Nascar.

Owner of the year- I can't agree with Hendrick. I know he won the championship and all. But how many times did they get caught cheating? I think I'm gonna go with Childress on this one. He had all 3 cars in the top 12 and I don't remember them getting caught cheating ( although I could be wrong).

Re: Moments of 2007

Here's mine...

Biggest Disappointment: Junior (hands down)
Best Confrontation: Harvick and Montoya (brought back the good old days)
Best TV Announcer: Mike Joy
Best Surprise Driver: Martin Truex, Jr. (for rising to the top and getting in the chase while all those other distractions were going on at DEI)
Comeback Driver: Clint Bowyer (I agree with Bob on this one)
Funniest Moment: The fan who asked Kenseth for an autograph
Most Embarrassing Moment: Mikey having to explain to his son why he got caught cheating.
Best Paint Scheme: Junior's Elvis car
Owner of the Year: Richard Childress (for the same reason as jks812 said)
Best Finish: Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway (that was some great racing to the finish)
Best Commercial: I have no idea, I don't pay much attention to them.
Driver of the Year: Clint Bowyer (for doing what nobody said he could, for getting his first win under the pressure of the chase, and for placing 3rd in the chase in his second year)

3fan, I have to agree with yours except I'd make the following changes/comments:
Biggest Disappointment: Denny Hamlin for not showing the same guy driving as last year (who was that guy in the Denny Hamlin suit? A Smoke clone?) AND Mikey's handling of his DUI accident.
Best Paint Scheme: I liked Kenseth's "Dark" Dewalt car the best.

Best Commercial: as a series, the Mikey's email NAPA commercials. (BTW, I'm starting a rumor that Lauren Wallace is gonna get Bella & her elephant and go stomp Mike Wallace & the gecko .. yeah, they're gonna be an item this year!)

Re: Moments of 2007

My picks:
Biggest Disappointment: Tony Stewart
Even though I hate him, I expected a way bigger comeback after the way 2006 went.

Best Confrontation: Kevin Harvick vs. Juan Pablo Montoya
I completely agree.

Best TV Announcer: Mike Joy
Easy.

Biggest Surprise Driver: Casey Mears
I knew he had a ton of potential but I didn't think he could unleash it that fast after win number 1.

Comeback Driver: Bobby Lebonte
Let's face it, he doesn't get the best equipment and to pull off 18th is impressive.

Funniest Moment: Clint Bowyer's first win and chase
All of the nay-sayers out there really bit there tounge after this year!

Most Embarrassing Moment: Montreal
NASCAR underestimates the raw power of a disgruntled Robby Gordon.

Best Paint Special Scheme:Reed Sorenson's Halo 3 car
A 10 for originality.

Owner of the Year: Rick Hendrick
Absolutely killed this year.

Best Finish: Daytona 500
Gave the stick and ball fans a taste of what NASCAR is (or should) be. Last lap, last turn, crash, two man fight, win by inches, car upside-down across line.

Best Commercial: Nextel
Had the best overall ideas.

Driver of the Year: Jeff Gordon
6 time champion and you know it.

Re: Moments of 2007

It's been awhile since my last post and I really don't know why, but I like to reflect, so here's what I thought of '07:

Biggest Disapointment: It'd be easy to say MWR or Dale Jr or something like that, but how about nearly every team that isn't owned by Rick Hendrick? I like parity, and I hate the superteams that are being created, so it's especially disapointing to me when I see the 48 and the 24 take yet another checkered flag.

Best Confrontation: Staying with the pack on this one. Harvick and Montoya for sure.

Best TV Announcer: Mike Joy by far.

Biggest Suprise Driver: Juan Montoya. I may not like his attitude as rookie, and he had his headscratcher moments, but he was consistant. Much more so than I think most though he would be.

Comeback Driver: How about a shout out for Dave Blaney? Had himself a solid year.

Funniest Moment: I'm gonna say Matt's fan at the Glen too.

Most Embarrasing Moment: ESPN's coverage.

Best Special Paint Scheme: I can't even remember most of them

Owner of the Year: Rick Hendrick pretty much ran away with it. Richard Petty and Robby Gordon deserve a mention.

Best Finish: Again, not much argument. Daytona 500

Best Commercial: I guess I'll go with Michael Waltrip's NAPA ones. At least the guy can poke fun at himself.

Driver of the Year: I hesitate to say Jimmie Johnson because he clearly had the best equipment under him, but who else is there?

And my hopes for '08: Parity between teams and a Bob Jenkins sighting.

That's true. Gotta give credit where credit is due. Any you put up with a lot of crap when he struggled early, too.
