| Re: GEICO, Wallace Join Germain Racing in 2008 OK ... now here is a good question for you. Why is the elephant in the DLP commercials ??? |

| Re: GEICO, Wallace Join Germain Racing in 2008 While there has been no response to the question from DLP, the more popular thoughts offered at this time seem to revolve around the following. There is a relationship around mirrors and DLP that foster this guess in the "What da frig" community. ************************************************** ***** It may refer to the study that has just been released showing that elephants have self awareness, like humans do. The test uses a mirror to show the elephants their reflection. The elephants reacted to their reflections by first trying to look around to the back side of the mirror, wondering maybe where the rest of that elephant was standing in front of them. Then in an obvious recognition that what they saw was in fact themselves, they started inspecting their reflection, turning their heads from side to side while keeping their eyes on the mirror. Some even groomed themselves. In one part of the test, a mark is placed on the mirror over the reflection of the elephant's face and it is then allowed to look again. The elephant raised its trunk to where the spot would be on its own face to inspect. These results show that elephants have a distinct sense of self and not self. In other words, they can differentiate between themselves and others which are external to their own awareness. Something which humans, some higher primates and elephants share. ************************************************** ************************************** I go with - until DLP and/or ad agency exposes - all else is guess. |

| Re: GEICO, Wallace Join Germain Racing in 2008 Ah ha! So neither of us know for sure of what we speak. All answers or guesses now become correct, or at least as true or accurate as another. Fair 'nuf. On to another thread. |

| Re: GEICO, Wallace Join Germain Racing in 2008 as I understand it, there were some sort of studies, maybe marketing studies, done to test product favorability in different scenes/situations. the highest score was always achieved when an elephant was in the scene, it didn't matter what else was going on .. the elephant made the sell. I also read about the elephant with Bella. it's an Indian Elephant rather than an African Elephant - the African varieties are not tame enough to work in this situation. and, over the course of several days of filming it developed an attachment to Bella. now they are the best of friends and the elephant is content to just stand by her side.

Reason I went with my SWAG (Scientific wild a** guess) was the "mirrors" reference in the DLP commercial ("It's the mirrors") and the mirrors in the elephant study. But since none of us really knows --- I go with your - "Dumbo sells". Last edited by Racer Duck : 12-13-2007 at 07:40 PM. Reason: fixed formatting |
