NASCAR not planning on moving awards ceremony out of Big Apple?

Once again, there's a heavy – and healthy – debate going on over whether NASCAR should bring its champions week events back to New York. NASCAR officials say nothing's doing, but last week, talk of taking the banquet and the surrounding events somewhere else was on the minds of many. "We do not currently have plans to relocate the 2008 NASCAR Spring Cup Series Awards Ceremony," a NASCAR spokesman said yesterday, in the sanctioning body's first official comment about next year's event. -- NY Daily News

Re: NASCAR not planning on moving awards ceremony out of Big Apple?

I'll probably get my butt kicked for this, but I agree with the following statement ...

"This [New York City] is the media and marketing capital of the world. NASCAR is a huge business relying heavily on the big corporations housed here to support the sanctioning body directly, and, separately, the teams."

For just one second, put away the Southern roots, put away the Bruton attempt at a monopoly. It's good commercialism for the sport. Traffic jams in NYC due to NASCAR is newsworthy. I don't have a problem with that.

I'm ducking as I hit the Submit Reply button ...

I gotta agree with you Penny. I guess it all boils down to;"ANY publicity is good publicity."

agreed, NYC is the media and money capitol...

and I seem to remember one of the Cup owners opened an office in Manhattan for the specific purpose of making their presence known in those circles .. a blatant attempt to manage their media and sponsorship relations at the "center of the action", so to speak.
