One must deal here with the reality that the time has long since past where we may, within any reasonably conceiveable and/or logical application of actual or artificial intelligence, be considered for inclusion within any group, category, or segment of the known animate, or inanimate for that matter, world as a "Child" of friggin' anything.

I agree Quality Vince what are you doing? Just messing. This doesn't deserve an answer but since I'm on the thread now I will put my two cents in. Johnson winning a 2nd year in a row is just luck. He is nothing and he will be washed up in a couple of years. My prediction for next Feb at the Daytona 500 he blows the engine up in the first 20 laps! Hoped I just jinxed the man. Had to get a furnance filter had to wait till today to get it didn't want to go into Lowes during the season had to wait officially til after the awards! I know I'm weird!

Re: NASCAR on the verge of the Jimmie Johnson Era?

This Johnson love-in is getting old. Two Championships in a row? Big deal. Gordon did the same a few years back.

Cale Yarborough holds the record for most consecutive NASCAR championships, winning three Nextel Cup Championships in a row (1976-7.

10 wins in one season? Big friggin' whoop! Richard Petty won 27 races in 1967, including an all-time record of 10 straight races. Not that I like such dominance, but man, that's impressive.

So there!

Ok, I feel like I'm picking on you here, but I have to ask, why are all the other stats you mentioned impressive but Johnson's are not? I think he's had a mighty impressive year. So as I understand it, it's okay for Petty to dominate but if JJ does, it's not ok? Dominance is dominance - what's the difference who does it? And if you look at Johnson's record since he started in NASCAR, he's been quite impressive the whole time. I'm not asking to compare stats because that's too subjective in my opinion, but just clarify why dominance is ok for some and not for others. If a driver/team is good enough to dominate as JJ has, as Petty has, as Sr. did, as Gordon has, and even as Stewart has at times, I don't care who they are. I've just got to respect the fact that they are obviously doing something right. And honestly, I think winning back to back championships for any driver is a big deal. It's hard to believe Yarborough won three in a row. I can't imagine JJ winning three in a row, but by this time next year, we'll know. The thought makes me a little nauseous, but I'll try to get over it so I can watch the races next year without a barf bucket.

You can pick on me all you want.

As I mentioned, "not that I like such dominance" in reference to Petty. I was simply pointing out that the Johnson love-in is making him out to be the best thing since sliced bread. And, I'm with you, I don't do the statistics thing, but when I looked at Petty's record, that was quite impressive. I wasn't following NASCAR back then, but I would have been bored. Also, though I love Sr., I don't think the word "dominate" was used to describe him.

Hell, any driver who wins the Cup has an impressive season of its time. But to say, "Oh my God! He won 10 races this year!" Doesn't impress me in the least.

Remember, if it wasn't for The Chase, Gordon would have clinched the Championship this year.

I'm not here to bicker with anyone. Just an observation. You are very good at playing devil's advocate, and I mean that as a compliment.

I agree. However, we're definitely in another era; new race car, champs from open wheel series', foreign make logos on cars, etc., etc. It might develop into a jj era, and then again, it may not. Too soon to tell. History and eras are always written by, and named for, the victors.
