Colorado track

Last yaer, I attended the last NASCAR race at Pikes Peak International Raceway. It was a Busch race. After that race, they tore it down. Now Colorado is without a tack. The ISC is thinking to build a track somewhere in Colorado. Share your thoughts on wheather they should or not, and if so, what kind of a track should it be.

Thoughts: It was silly to tear down PP Speedway. It was in driving distance of Denver and Northern New Mexico.

More thoughts: Anything but a "cookie-cutter" track. (1½-mile tri oval). My vote is something around 3/4's of a mile, NOT IDENTICAL to Richmond - the best track for racing on the entire circuit. But Denver already has one of the IMNSVHO, five best short tracks in the entire USA, National Speedway. With the quality of racing you have there every Saturday night (I've attended maybe 3-4 races there in the past three years) I don't know why you'd even want a NASCAR track to screw things up.

yeah, that's the trick: a restrictor plate race in mile high atmosphere!!!

why not just have "the boys" run the Pikes Peak Hill Climb course? I bet the Unsers would turn out in force!

Now THERE is an event I'd pay to see! They used to run stock cars up the hill, let's do it again. (Ooops! No room for executive suites nor the overpirced crap trailers.)

Re: Colorado track

I know that ISC abandoned the great Pikes Peak International Raceway, but in the longrun that decision might be good for local car clubs and fans who may be attracted to something different. I hope the track gets converted into something with more appeal to motorsports enthusiasts and their families who want to participate in the driving experience and not just the viewing.

Welcome vsalas to the GoTeamsGo Forums and the NASCAR Forum. Be sure to stop by the Introduce Yourself forum (bottom of the front page) and tell us about yourself.

As you can see, I'm just down the road and glad to have another NASCAR fan in the area. And as Q said, be sure to check out the Motorsports Forum.

I know it's of little consolation, but the last Busch Series race at Pikes Peak was in 2005 (David Green won) and the last IRL race was also in 2005 (Dan Weldon won). It appears the owners intended to do something different with the track in 2006, so the major series dropped it from their schedules.

I think the race smokefan20 is talking about was a Busch West Series race. In 2007, the Busch West moved to Colorado National Raceway, a 3/8 mile oval just north of Denver.

Maybe someone familiar with Colorado racing knows or has heard something about what's happening to the old Pikes Peak International site.

Re: Colorado track

I was really depressed about the track in colo springs being torn down. I enjoyed going to the races. I only missed one year.
Another track should be built maybe a mile and a half or a two miler. Incorperate drag racing, open wheel racing, police driving training center, go-cart racing and other auto related events. E-GADs Tony Stewart driving a Toyota.
