Re: A Simple Request...

I (finally) got an email from Wayne. I thought I'd share the pertinent parts with you since he's having to make his trips online very short.

Quote:
Greetings Charlie,

I got your letter and was pleasantly surprised. I've been trying to get some stationary and envelopes but its hard to hop the fence to get to a store here in West Seattle. The staff goes a little nuts when you disappear. Gee, I wonder why? Sounds great what you are doing on the late model. I wish I could get to play with a racer right now. But first things first. I have a different Shrink this time around and he seems to know what he's doing. He changed my medications and added another anti depressent with dextro methorophan. It acts as a binding agent and a transporter to get the meds where they need to go to do the best work. It seems to be working. I have a long way to go but we are going in the right direction. Kind of like getting rid of a push and going just a little loose. You know how its easier to drive her with a little loose and "Earnhardt it" around the turn.

My next back surgery is scheduled for April 17th. This time I am going to do what the doctor says and not play with race cars or any thing else until he gives me the go ahead. I'll have lots of PT and rest during the recovery stage. It will be a test of will power not to go out to the track and play. But thats OK because when next year rolls around I will come out screaming and make a run for the championship. I've got a sponsor for the body and paint, lettering and Northshore Baptist Church for the touch of Spirit. How can I lose? Well, lots of ways yeah I know. If my brother Murphy shows up once or twice I might have problems but I hope prayers will keep him away!

Got to go. Some other patient wants the computer. C-ya.
Wayne
as you can tell, he seems to be improving; has a good (and realistic) attitude and is looking forward to getting back to real life. also looks like we need to circle April 17 on our calendars and continue mentioning Wayne in our prayers.

Re: A Simple Request...

'nuther update: got this PM from Wayne yesterday (I think he actually sent it Thursday, but I'm kinda slow getting around to posting... )

Quote:
I had an appointment with a shrink from the social security guys today and last week from their MD type. I hope it all goes through this time. I've been turned down 5 times already. But this time they sent me to their doc's so thats something new. Here's to hopeing it goes well.

Someone stole my support equipment for my implant 2 weeks ago. So I havent had the use of the implant for a while. Needless to say the battery has run down and I have the major pain returned to the legs. I cant get any new equipment till the next surgery so I am in a wheel chair.

Boy dont that suck! It's not fast enough for me. Of course the nurses dont think so. How can I get a high powered motor on this thing? I got yelled at by the charge nurse for speeding but I just turn up the volume on my walkman and keep on trucking!

Your emails along with all the rest of the guys at GTG sure do make a difference on my attitude for the long days in this place.

I get to go outside for a few minutes 4 times a day and the sunshine feels good. Shoot, even the rain feels nice.

The doc asked the court for a 90 day stay so I am going to be here for a while.

Thanks for making a difference.
Keep letting Wayne know you're there .. email him, PM him or (gasp!) write a letter or post card. It all helps.

Re: A Simple Request...

Got this email from Wayne this evening:

Quote:
Howdy,

I go in for surgery tomorrow morning at the U W Medical Center. Check in at 0730 and surgery at 0930. Prayers are wanted/needed and as much as can be. I'll be in touch as soon as I can to let you know the outcome. I'm hoping it will work and I'll be pain free. This time I follow the Doc's orders and wont even look at a wrench for 6 months. I'll talk to you later.
Wayne
I've also asked a friend in Seattle to try to get info on Wayne's status after the surgery and let me know. I'll post whatever I get as soon as I can afterward...
