Re: Are All Championships Equal It like comparing apples & oranges, ya can't. Personally I think championships won "back in the day" were more about a drivers & crews abilities. These days I think its more about technology and computers. Back in the day you had the King riding 500 miles crewing a wet rag & getting a cup of water shoved through the window on a pit stop. These days drivers have air conditioned suits & personal trainers.

Re: Are All Championships Equal It really is an apples and oranges question. There are no two years worth of championships that are equal except that tyere was a winner. Each year provides new challenges to the teams. 40 plus years ago they were far more closer to a stock car than anything we have today. How could you possibly compare a 1957 Chevy to todays Chevy ??? Obviously you cannot so how can you possibly compare the end result of a season ? Richard Petty and Dale Sr. both won 7 championships. Nothing you say can change any of that. They met the requirements at that time. Equipment has changed, people have changed and sponsorship has changed. You just cannot equally compare something that is not equal.

Re: Are All Championships Equal Just exactly the way it is written. He got your attention, stated a couple of opinions and did NOT once request to start a fight. If you have constructive discussion or an opinion by all means voice it. I'm informing everyone right now that this thread will not turn into a fight. Discussions or closed. Your choice.

| Re: Are All Championships Equal For what it's worth from my little corner of the world, while it might institute debate, comparing NASCAR champions for completely different eras is almost as big an exercise in futility as comparing home run hitters from Babe Ruth's era to the cork-batting, steroid-injecting Bozo's of today. Good luck on your comparisons, folks. I'll just watch this one.

Re: Are All Championships Equal And that statement right there says so very much. If you look at all the changes in NASCAR over the past 50 plus years it becomes evident that comparisons are difficult at best. In no way can you compare Jimmy Johnson to Benny Parsons. Two totally different era's. The same applies to King Richard and everyone else. They were all the best for at least that season that they won.
