Re: Is the King correct?

well of course he is right ..... JG vs Tony Stewart or Jr or Harvick or most anyone else ........ of course it would be more exciting and get more fans watching

i would prefer to see atleast 3-4 drivers still in the mix right now

as for media hype and worldwide fan interest .... how about JG vs one of the new open wheel guys like JPM

Re: Is the King correct?

"He just thinks having the two of them duel for Chase supremacy, with no one else realistically within striking distance with two races to go, is, well, a little boring."

so do I.

That's why he's the King! I happen to agree completely.

Re: Is the King correct?

"It's not good for the sport, no," Petty said. "It's too cut-and-dried. You've got no [real] competition."

"When you get Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson, they're the same. They've just got different names."

Now there are some strong, true statements. I wonder how Gordon and Johnson would respond to that. Coming from Petty, these statements mean something!

Thank you, Richard!

Re: Is the King correct?

Tough (here) to see it any different as we've watched the Consolation Event (Chase) currently in progress. Not suggesting that any other format ever applied, developed, or suggested is or can be perfect.

As he notes, the sport is in another of the cyclic domination periods that will, just like those he noted from his own era, over time cycle out.

These are indeed the times that will tend to "lose" the more casual / less fully interested "fans". Many may be expected to return soon as Spring brings the blooms of a new season.

Re: Is the King correct?

I agree that it's boring when it's 2 from the same team. But they are the ones that run the best, as much as I hate to say that. And at least it's 2 going at it. The old way we would have known about 5 races ( or longer) ago who was gonna be champ.

True. However, these are indeed the times that also will tend to lose the long-term faithful fans ... such as myself. Sure, I'll return in February for the Daytona 500. If things don't shake up quite a bit next year, the Daytona 500 will be one of the few races I will watch flag to flag.

Sad ...

Which is exactly the way Busch & CTS do it now and up until just a few years ago was good enough for cup. My view is so what if someone dominates ??? It's what we have right now only places 13 on down have zero chances of breaking into the top 10 no matter how many races they win. NOT FAIR !!
