Kyle Petty

After reading the thread about Bobby Labonte losing a crew cheif it got me to thinking about Kyle Petty. I think it would be best for him to step back from the driver role and focus on the business.

Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of his, but it's hard to watch him race and struggle week in and week out. I think it would be better for his race teams for him to retire and find a decent driver to have a go in the 45 car.

Plus, I love him as a commentator on TV, I think he could really do a good job in the booth on Sunday's rather than the drivers seat.

Many here don't remember Kyle when he was a rising star and a threat to win each week. His biggest problem was, like Junior, the shadow his father cast over him. He fought this and raced for Bud Moore and Felix Sabates before he returned to Petty Enterprises. In fact (many of you might not be aware of this) to my knowledge, since he first came into major league racing, starting with ARCA, the name over the driver door was always "Kyle," and not "Kyle Petty."

In 1994 Kyle and Dale Sr. were the favorites to win the first Brickyard 400.

Kyle got sidetracked when he left Felix in...? 1995. He tried to mix driving with a recording career and both suffered. His career never recovered after he and Felix split.

I'm with you. Kyle should see the handwriting on the wall and step aside. I'd hate to see him follow in his dad's footsteps and just hang around.

Yep.

79-84 - Petty Enterprises
85-88 - Wood Brothers
89-96 - Felix Sabates (1 race in 89 for Hendricks)
97-present - Petty Enterprises

Re: Kyle Petty

I remember when Kyle use to win. I would love to see that out of him again, but I don;t think we will. I think what happened to Adam took alot of it out of Kyle. I do wish he would put someone else in his car now and him go to the booth. He's great in the booth and I enjoyed hearing him call the races.

Re: Kyle Petty

Everyone hang on... I think that's what he is gettin ready to do soon. He's just tryin to get some things in line first. What's he gets things where he wants them to be, he will step aside.
