In an attempt to return the topic back to where it started I'd say at this very moment Jimmie is better. Overall I think Jeff is a more proven commodity.

Overall I think Jeff is. Although Jimmie will be as good and hold the records that Jeff does now eventually. I don't know how to word this next part right, so maybe ya'll will still understand what I'm trying to say. Right now Jeff has the respect of the drivers and Nascar and they usually listen to his opinions some. I don't think Jimmie will ever have that.

don't think I'd call Jimmie better... I believe he's had the better equipment and better setups recently - so his crew & crew chief are better. I suspect if he and Gordo swapped teams Gordo would have cinched the championship by now.

When you compare records (and assume JJ wins the championship this year) .. at the end of their first 7 seasons in Cup (with 2 races to go this season, the results of these two races won't change JJ's statistics much) Gordo comes out on top.

• JJ had 32 wins, 85 Top 5, 132 Top 10 and 12 poles in 217 races. He had won 2 championships and finished 2nd twice.
• Gordo had 42 wins, 100 Top 5, 123 Top 10, 23 poles in 189 races. He had won 3 championships and finished 2nd once.

Use to you would hear them say that during the drivers meeting Sr. was the one that would speak up on issues and they'd listen to. Now I've heard them say that Jeff is the one that speaks up now and I just don't think Jimmie will ever get to that point.

I don't believe it's fair to compare a career that's over twice as long with a short one.

the point I am making is that comparing each driver's first 7 seasons, Jeff is ahead, results-wise.

That's been my position since Letarte took over as Gordon's CC. JJ's team has the better CC and JG's team has the better driver.
