Re: Darlington gets upgrade

If Darlington could just build some infrastructure around the track it would be great. It's a miracle NASCAR is still using that track.

She's a classic and I hope the "Lady in Black" never changes. It's a shame that the "Southern 500" had to bow down to corporate greed. There is and always will be a soft place in my heart for that track. Like an old girlfriend that you never got over.

Re: Darlington gets upgrade

I live just a few miles from the track and certainly hope it lives for ever but when I see these other tracks located in essentially metropolitan areas off the interstate with hotels, restaurants, paved parking etc, around it I wonder why this track continues. If it rains prior to the race the unpaved parking is a muddy mess, you have to travel several miles of secondary roads to get to it, no hotels close to it, etc. etc.

I know the competition for these races by other tracks is fierce so thankfully Darlington is making the improvements to the track!

To be honest, I wish NASCAR had two dates there a year instead of some of the other tracks which I won't name. Not only is Darlington historic, it's difficult to race on! I enjoy watching races that challenge the drivers, their teams and their equipment because that's what makes them the best around!

Thats all part of the mystical Darlington weekend, I can remember as a little kid how the getting to the track and loading up to go home was what made the Darlington experience what it was. But that was late 60's to early 70's. And impressionable it was on a 12 year old kid that worshiped NASCAR . I can remember fans wanting to buy our take off's, blown tires, or sheetmetal that had been twisted. Anything that came off the car was wanted. For a while there I was Monty Hall. Great memories of that special "Lady" I shall treasure for all time.
