North Carolina's winning streak in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series is in trouble. Jimmie 's victory Sunday at the Texas Motor Speedway was the 34th time a driver who wasn't born in the Tar Heel state has won this year. A driver from North Carolina has won at least one race since NASCAR started in 1949. California leads the pack with 17 victories in 34 races. Kyle Petty, who is from Randleman, N.C., said he's not concerned about his state's winning streak. "If you look there are probably fewer of us now than at any other point in the history of NASCAR," Petty said. "It's just a part of the evolution of the sport. I think North Carolina, as a whole, definitely played a large role in getting Nextel Cup racing to the level it is today. The sport has changed and it has grown much bigger and better. That is no way a negative."
