Coleman to Hall of Fame

I just read the following on Jayski:

Coleman Signs with Hall of Fame Racing: Rookie driver Brad Coleman, only a few short weeks after signing for a full-time ride with Brewco Motorsports in the Busch Series, has turned around and signed another contract to go Sprint Cup racing in 2008 with Hall of Fame Racing. The 19-year-old Texas native has agreed to become a full-time test driver for the team and run at least seven Cup races at the end of the 2008 season; meaning Hall of Fame will add a second car along side the #96 piloted by J.J. Yeley. Following proper development, Coleman will pilot the Cup ride at Hall of Fame Racing full time in 2009, although a sponsor and number for the entry has yet to be determined.(NASCAR.com)(11-2-2007)

If BrewCo didn't give him an OK to sign another contract, and if this is another example of "I'll uncondtionally agreed to work for you until the end of my contract <crosses fingers> unless something I feel is better comes along," I hope BrewCo sues his skinny little butt off. This kind of stuff makes me crazy[ier].

Re: Coleman to Hall of Fame

This was on Nascar.com:

Before transitioning to Hall of Fame, Coleman will finish out his part-time Busch series contract with Joe Gibbs Racing this season. Next season, he will step in to pilot a full-time ride Busch ride for the No. 27 Ford at Brewco Motorsports, a contract signed a couple of weeks before his contract with Hall of Fame Racing.

Here's the thing Bob. Brewco drives fords. Won't HOF be goin Yota next year? Won't the actual kicker be whether he signed a manufacturer agreement? He could still drive both. Bobby Labonte drives Dodges for Petty and has driven Harvicks Chevy's in the Busch races.

Unless Brewco has it in their contract with Coleman to run Cup races and eventually move into a full time ride then I don't think they have a say in the matter. Brewco is a Nationwide Series team and HOF is a Cup team. My guess is Brewco and HOF knew about both parties when contracts were being ironed out. I really doubt both deals only took a couple days to work out. Both these deals were brewing for weeks. Brewco knew they would sign him to a full time Busch deal with the knowledge he would go Cup racing with HOF. I wouldn't doubt it if Brewco switches to Yota and becomes a satelite NWS team of JGR. I'm starting to think JD had a hand in all of this. That is probably why JJ went to HOF, and why Coleman is going their as well. Maybe JD isn't running things into the ground after all. With JGR/HOF that could possibly be 8 teams in the future working close together.

If Ford gives the OK and he fulfills his contract with BrewCo, good for him. I applaud him. But, if this turns out to be what it appears to be, Coileman is just another opportunistic little jerk.

IMNSVHO he made a good faith agreement with BrewCo. Ethics are NEVER situational. But, as I stated earlier, IF BrewCo and Ford has signed off on this then more power too Coleman. I fully applaude his success. He's a good little driver and he will be a future star, I'm sure.

But if he's urinating on an agreement made in good faith just because a better deal came his way, then he's just another opportunistic little jerk who has exhibited the integrity of a sea slug.

Re: Coleman to Hall of Fame

Seeing as how both contracts were signed just under a week apart then I'm sure they were both being negoiated at the same time. That being said I find it hard to beleive that both parties did not know about each other during said process. That being said like I stated in my earlier post I'm sure in the not too distant future we will see Brewco change to Yota and fall some where under the JGR banner. Like I stated earlier as well I'm sure JD Gibbs set both of these deals in motion. I'm sure he started calling up Nationwide teams asking if they needed an up in coming driver to fill their seats. Brewco probably jumped on that in a heartbeat. Same for HOF, JGR knowing they had no room for Coleman with Logano coming up fast handed him off to HOF. I'm sure not only is HOF getting a pretty talented driver I bet their support from JGR just got a ton better as well.

Obviously BrewCo and Ford agreed. He'll be driving Busch for BrewCo and doing the HOF thing too next year. So I guess everyone involved agreed for it to be done this way.

IF that is the way it came down, I have absolutely no problem with it.

Me either. Would be good to see someone stick to their agreement for a change.
