That may well be true. I don't watch movies about baseball and/or football. Unless you count "A League of Their Own". ... just kidding!

I guess I'm struggling with sports movies altogether. The sport itself is entertaining. I don't need a Hollywood interpretation. But that's just me. I'm sure there is an audience for such a thing.

Yeah, I guess I'm the exact opposite. I love a good sports movie - emphasis on the "good".

I will probably watch (not pay for) this "historical" movie out of curiosity. BT points out a few circumstances that will probably be omitted and/or improvised.

Perhaps I'll learn something. Perhaps not. I'll look to you GTG experts to praise or bash the film.

Why is everyone so negative and quick to label it a crap movie before even seeing it, atleast watch it first..

heres the official site btw:Red Dirt Rising - The Movie | Produced/Directed by Bo Bobak and James Suttles | Based on the Book Red Dirt Tracks by Gail Cauble Gurley

This is going to sound really b*tchy, but I'm going to say it anyway. Who the hell is the target audience? If the target audience is the NASCAR fan, you know this film is doomed to fail. We're too smart! Yup! Too smart!

That said, I can't imagine a non-NASCAR fan even being remotely interested in a story such as this.

I'll be the first to admit that I liked Days of Thunder for the entertainment value. Again, the entertainment value. Nothing to do with the sport.

I just don't get it ... but I won't lose any sleep over it!

Bah, DAT had no entertainment value for me. As for the sport (excluding the cheesy parts), Frankenheimer's Grand Prix and McQueen Le Mans are the best.
Talladega Nights and Cars, now they had entertainment value.

I'm just guessing but maybe part of the reasoning for downing it falls into the same reasoning process that football fans use to down a team they don't care about ?????

Easy answer, Vince. There have been so many "Crap" movies put out that thinking it's going to be some spoof on backward Southerners (Talladega Nights) or some dramatized version of what Hollywood thinks NASCAR should be (Dayz of Thunder) or some cinematic nightmare centering around cars which only aspires to be a "B" movie (Kenny Rogers' SixPack or Fast and the Furious), plus Hollywood's current penchant for being politically correct, leave us going automatically to the negative.

DAT (I'm assuming you mean DoT, as in Days of Thunder) was a movie. Just that ... a movie. Big stars ... love story took center stage as opposed to the racing. Still, I thought it was good movie. I in no way thought it represented reality. I didn't expect racing reality at all. Again ... it's a movie!

Haven't seen Talladega Nights or Cars ...

Talladega Nights is barely a racing spoof, it's an absurd-situation comedy Ferrell-style, witch in fact it mocked both NASCAR and F1.
