Re: Bruton Smith pulls Charlotte races Here is an idea "One Race per Track" give Rockingham back a race and Wilkesboro. Give Nashville and Kentucky a date. Give each track one date. Make the First race the Daytona 500 and the last Race Talledega. This would make each race special and would give more fans a chance to see a race in thier own backyard.

Re: Bruton Smith pulls Charlotte races Heck if they followed this line of thinking imagine how much more Bruton could expand. He could put a race in LA and Mexico City he could even go north to Toronto and Calgary. There is no end to what he could do the question is would NASCAR step up and give each track only one date?

Re: Bruton Smith pulls Charlotte races I see next year as being a very, very interesting year in many, many ways. For those who think the 90 lull in racing from mid Nov to mid Feb is going to be dull .... think again. There could be big things happening on the horizons. Stay tuned !!! I still see nothing happening in NYC. The infrastructure is not in place and those folks living there will fight it. Bruton has bigger plans than NYC.

Re: Bruton Smith pulls Charlotte races Not world domination but there is a possibility that you'll stock car race world domination. All these tracks plus smaller tracks that want races. Think about what he could do by pulling out of NASCAR and offering a 30 (or whatever) week series. Nextel/Sprint/Winston Cup won't end next year but just think about all the damage he could do within a few years. Mind boggling !!!

Re: Bruton Smith pulls Charlotte races NASCAR may well split into two seperate divisions. In one sense it already has Bruton-vs- France. If they went to the one race a year format they could literally expand into a monstrosity where every race really meant something. They could add more bull ring small tracks like Wilkesboro and another superspeedway like the old Texas track. Heck I would love to see them build a track in New Orleans the time to do it is now before the ninth ward gets rebuilt. Mardigras and NASCAR in Feburary what a combination that would be great right after Daytona.

Re: Bruton Smith pulls Charlotte races Well if Nascar gets any bigger they may just have to split up into divisions. East and West? 25 - 30 teams per division? Run 25 races then the top 10 or 15 from each division move into a 10 race playoff. Well it is so crazy I can't believe Brian hasn't thought of it yet.

| Re: Bruton Smith pulls Charlotte races Don't underestimate Bruton, Dustin. He has inferred, several times, that he would like a stock car series to compete with NASCAR. Also remember that Bruton was running a successful stock car series (National Stock Car Racing Assoc.; NSCRA) BEFORE Bill France Sr. founded NASCAR. Trust me of this, IF Olin Bruton Smith was forty instead of eighty, he'd probably have a separate series going now. What would he run? My bet would be stock appearing cars or cars designed to remind the fans of stock cars of years gone by, kind of like the Legends cars do. Remember, the idea behind the entire Legends Empire came out of the head of Humpy Wheeler, Bruton's alter ego. As for drivers, he'd probably "buy" a several of the NASCAR stars (probably the entire Hendrick stable would go, Rick being a Charlotte homeboy, and all...) This is going to grate on a lot of nerves here but I have never been completely convinced that a Series run by Bruton and Humpy wouldn't be a far superior product to the thing NASCAR has become. It's a knee jerk reaction to cast Bruton as the villain in any NASCAR intrigue he's involved in but I, personally, think that it has been Bruton's involvement and extreme presence, in NASCAR which has kept the France family from completely ruining big league stock car racing. But with the direction Bill France Jr. took, and Brian France is taking NASCAR, I think Bruton may be losing the battle.
