Jr's "Old School" Test Ride at Atlanta Motor Speedway 10/29/2007

Old school
To commemorate his first laps with Hendrick Motorsports, Earnhardt is driving a "throwback" No. 5 All-Star Racing Chevrolet during the test. Earnhardt's Impala SS features a red and white paint scheme identical to the first car campaigned by team owner Rick Hendrick in Cup-level competition. Then known as "All-Star Racing," Hendrick Motorsports fielded the car with driver Geoff Bodine in 1984.

Dale's idea
"It's really exciting for me because that car got it all started," said team owner Rick Hendrick. "This was totally Dale Jr.'s idea. He loves the older stuff — the history — and he wanted to paint it up like our first car with All-Star Racing and City Chevrolet on it. It brings back some old memories, and I'm just honored that he wanted to do it. I can't wait to see that car on the track. His dad (Dale Earnhardt Sr.) was one of the guys we talked to about driving the car, so it'll be pretty special to see the Earnhardt name on the roof."

I heard on the race yesterday they were gonna do this. Man, that looks sweet... any chance we can talk them into running it for 2008?

It definitely is better than the other cars they showed.

With commitments already in place with two major sponsors .... I don't think this will happen.

Nice paint scheme... Junior nation would have been happy with this paint scheme but they wanted the number 8 (for tattoos) now the "Red nation" becomes the blue and green nation!

Know what though? The scheme really makes no difference to the driver because while he's driving the car, he can't see his own paint scheme!!!

Simplicity IS BEAUTY!!!

Ain't that the truth! Sometimes the paint schemes these days are so cluttered up, it distracts from the beauty of the car.

One more pic...
I thought it was cool that Jr wore a red and white Adidas fire suit for the test.
Plain and simple, looks good with the car and keeps Coca-Cola, Pepsi/Mountain Dew and the National Guard happy.

That's a HECK of a PLUG for Adidas though!

When today's most popular NASCAR driver gears up in Adi equipment, you know people begin to salivate to acquire anything Junior wears! If Adidas is smart, they'd immediately offer "Junior Racing Gear" up for sale! I'm telling you, this guy is a marketing goldmine!

I've noticed that Puma supplies much of the shoes and gloves the drivers wear. Whether that's purely driver's choice or a sponsorship thing, I don't know but in this photo of Junior, even his shoes appear to be Adidas!

One last thing... I take photos for a living and this last picture is very well taken! The grandstands are clearly behind the car, the sponsor "All Star Racing" is very visible as is the fire suit - notice what's NOT visible at all though? The car's number! In other words, if Adidas wants to sell this as a stand-alone poster, it's as generic as can be and no toes get stepped on! Very slick indeed!
