The butt snorkeling being done by the Concord Mayor and the [so-called] city council is almost embarrassing.

Bruton was interviewed yesterday on SIRIUS by Pat Patterson and Chocolate Myers and he continues to state that he is "90% sure" that he will build a new track in an area other than Concord.

I'm sure the Mayor and the council members are fearing for their jobs and I wouldn't be surprised if the person, or persons, who pushed through the zoning change preventing Bruton from building his drag strip will wind up moving out of town.

Putting the drag strip in Concord reminds me of a little town just north of Mobile where they built a pulp mill about twenty years ago. You drive through the town and it smells like 180 pounds of grated armpits. But, to the people of the little town who work there, it smells like prosperity.

It will be pretty interesting to see how this plays out. What would be better? Impoving the old track, or building a new one?

I bet as long as Bruton keeps signing his paychecks, Humpy will be happy wherever he is....

I would be real curiuos to hear Nascar's side of this whole story. Bruton may own Lowes and can decide if they race there or not. Nascar makes the schedule though. It is their decision wether or not the new track will get any race dates. Bruton would be screwed if Nascar came out and said they would not replace Lowes with another track.

What I have seen that is not the way it work's.Own or buy the track,the race date's are your's.That is why the small or less profitable tracks were bought,closed or cut back to one date and the race dates moved elsewhere.N.Wilke's,Rockingham,Darlington-one race and even the old Nashville-closed,as far as cup date's etc...

my concearn would be (selfish I know) as to weather the new track would be a NEW track, or just another cookie cutter. howabout a new 2 1/2 mile concrete 40* banked super speedway........or a 3/4 semi banked shoet track like a combo of richmond and bristol.

NASCAR's over a barrel with Bruton. He (or his corp) owns 6 tracks that NA$CAR can't do without: Atlanta, Bristol, Charlotte, Texas, Las Vegas & Infineon. That's almost a third of NA$CAR's schedule and, more importantly (to NA$CAR, anyway) draw a tremendous number of wallets, er.. fans, to their races.... I think as long as Bruton builds a showplace and Humpy puts the butts in the seats, NA$CAR won't care where he builds it.
