Water restrictions may have impact on NASCAR teams

The historic Georgia drought may force changes in NASCAR's race plans next weekend at Atlanta. Teams have been told not to wash their big rigs and motor coaches. There has been speculation that NASCAR may change the weekend's format to make the 500 an "impound" race, with no practice after qualifying. Monday's car-of-tomorrow test is also in question, although NASCAR officials yesterday offered no indications it could be canceled. Teams use copious amounts of water to cool their engines during practice runs for qualifying; not a significant amount in the grand scheme of things, but enough perhaps to make for poor PR when the governor has called a state of emergency. All outdoor watering has been banned, because Atlanta has received only two inches of rain over the past two months. -- Winston-Salem Journal

Hurricane Season 2007—Predictions
Experts predict that the 2007 Atlantic hurricane season, which begins June 1 and ends November 30, has a 75% chance of being above normal in activity. "NOAA scientists predict 13 to 17 named storms, with seven to 10 becoming hurricanes, of which three to five could become major hurricanes of Category 3 strength or higher," said a NOAA official. An average season sees 11 named storms, with six becoming hurricanes, including two major hurricanes.

I can't nascar changing up, they could simply import a couple of tankers of water to serve the teams, and it can be non-potable water.

is atlanta a COT race ???

Re: Water restrictions may have impact on NASCAR teams

They're predicting rain in Atlanta starting today going through Thursday, so maybe that will help ease the problems for the race. I guess we'll see.

Re: Water restrictions may have impact on NASCAR teams

It would be pretty bad PR and unfortunately a couple of days of rain right now is not enough to fix the drought problems. It will be interesting to see what they do.
