ESPN Coverage

I'm so sick of ESPN and their stupid coverage! Those commentarys when they compare football to Nascar I'm so sick of it! Also last week when they had the split screen for Nascar and football-I don't care about football and what is going on with the scores! You need to only talk about Nascar! I was going to post this last week and I forgot! It just makes my boil!

Re: ESPN Coverage

No doubt! Nascar needs to get rid of ESPN all together!

Re: ESPN Coverage

ahh, the perils of being the high bidder...

remember, NA$CAR doesn't give a whit about whether you like the coverage, only whether they're making money off it .. and they are, so they're happy.

The question here is 'why are they losing ratings?'

Is it because of the coverage, or because of the racing? I think with the top 35 rule, NASCAR's wishy washy attitude and being completely buggered up with regards to penalties and debris cautions many longtime fans are getting fed up.

For me, I'd take ESPN coverage if the fastest 43 participated and NASCAR made decisions for the good of the sport and not their pocket book....

Re: ESPN Coverage

Me? I try not to get all worked up because I know that there's really not much I can do with the broadcast, regardless of who's feeding it to my TV. But I have my own solution that I would love to share with y'all!

I turn on the TV and MUTE IT! I turn on my Sirius satellite radio boombox and tune it into the NASCAR station (Ch. 128) and listen to the radio! Now, there is a problem with this because the radio commentary is behind the TV so there is no sync between either. Unless you have a DVR, this trick probably won't work - but in order to sync the radio to the TV, you need to PAUSE the live feed for about a 7-count (one-Mississippi, two-Mississippi,... until seven) then hit play and the radio broadcast should be close to the TV! I usually try to start the sync at the National Anthem where I pause right when the singer starts and wait for the radio until the same point to resume the TV.

The beauty of the radio broadcast is you don't have to be watching the race every single minute. To me, I will only un-mute the TV if I see an interview or something significant but most of the time, I listen to the radio and those fellows do a great job!

And I almost forgot... Sirius has driver-to-crew radio broadcasts so you can choose to listen to those channels instead.

I absolutely agree with you ... for once

Remember, the races themselves are rarely sell outs these days. Top 35, wishy washy attitude, etc., and The Chase I might add, are a factor in all of this.

Can't blame the network(s) for sagging ratings. I don't care what network the Daytona 500 is on, I'm watching it!

Some of us tend to blame the networks for what some of consider "bad" coverage, but let's not forget that it is the sponsors who bring the money to the table. Then again, if it weren't for the sponsors, we wouldn't have the broadcast coverage we have today. Good or bad. Catch 22.

No need for anyone to get all hooey over it!

happy? yes.

overjoyed? no.

as long as [insert TV network name here] is lining NA$CAR's pockets with the green stuff, NA$CAR isn't too concerned with ratings. remember, NA$CAR gets the same $$$ from [insert TV network name here] whether the ratings are good or bad.

so, while they may wish for higher ratings, they aren't tearing their hair out over it. they'll more than likely "penalize" [insert TV network name here] for loosing fans by increasing the ante next time the TV contract comes up for bid. hell, they'll probably do it anyway no matter what the ratings are!

Re: ESPN Coverage

The commercials just KILL the race. I can't stand it when they come back from a commercial and the cars are on pit road and a caution came out while they were at a commercial break. I'm looking all of the screen trying to see if my driver was caught up in a wreck or what the heck happened. FOX is good for that crap.

They also miss the restarts sometimes when coming back from a caution. You really notice the amount of commercials when you TIVO the race and whiz past all of them.

Get rid of Musberger's salary and they wouldn't have to sell as many commerical slots!
