Edwards Call For Change

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) -- Carl Edwards never thought he had much of a chance when he went before NASCAR's appeals committee to ask that his 25-point penalty be overturned.

He was right.

The three-member National Stock Car Racing Commission upheld NASCAR's decision to dock Edwards 25 points because his winning car failed inspection at Dover. Car owner Jack Roush also was docked 25 owner points, and crew chief Bob Osborne was fined $25,000.
Those penalties also were upheld, continuing a trend by a commission that rarely overturns anything.
Edwards, who was present for the appeal, said he wants an arbitrator to hear the cases.
"I was impressed with the guys who came and heard our side of it. They're all volunteers. It was awesome that they did that," Edwards said. "But they are all really appointed by NASCAR, I guess. If I could have brought three or four of my friends to hear it, I'm sure it would have been different."

I can see his point. Thye're appointed by Nascar and seriously, how many appeals have been won? But also on the other hand, don't do wrong and you won't have to appeal anything.
But I still say, if Nascar is gonna penalize one driver for being to low they should penalize all of em.

What did he do wrong ??? The car was legal prior to the race and then after racing hard it became illegal. No doubt they used some type of cloaking device like the one Harry Potter uses and had a crew member go to the car and make some illegal adjustments ... thinking they'd never get caught since they were invisible.

That has to be the answer. Right ???

I don't think Carl did anything wrong. I don't agree with Nascar penalizing him. All the other drivers and crew chiefs were saying you wouldn't do that at that track to get an advantage.
I got ahead of myself in that post, left a good bit out. I meant alot of drivers appeal but if they wouldn't do anything wrong, there would be no reason for it. Then the board might would seriously look at the appeals of a driver. But even the ones that flat out cheat, not calling names, appeal their penalty. So maybe the board just really doesn't take it that seriously.
I for one think Carl should have won his appeal and he might would have if the people weren't placed there by Nascar.

What bothers me is, NA$CAR said they didn't believe it to be intentional and there was no gain from it, but they still penalized him. Assinine. I know the rule is not to be to low, but if deemed unintentional, what's the point of taken money and points. It's almost like they should just go ahead and cheat cause they will get fined no matter whether it was intentional or not.

I haven't personally seen any written rule which Flipper broke. In fact, I can't say, with any degree of certainty that NASCAR even has any rules? If they had any I'm sure they'd be in the rule book for all to see, right?

Moses came down from the Mount with the Commandments etched in stone; NA$CAR's rules are etched in Silly Putty!

Re: Edwards Call For Change

OK, in the mind that works here (?) we're giving 'ol Carl the 25 points back. Let's see, that moves him from his current 5th position 240 points out to, ahhhhhh, - 5th position 215 points out, in the consolidation event (Chase) after the Championship.

Well, ahhhh, we just won't concern self with the present. We'll wait for the future and see what the change produces. If nothin' - fade.

Sure hope it makes a big difference cause then we'll complain like it mattered.

Sorry to all. It's just a points discussion/descrepancy/matter associated with "the Chase" here. Making it (here) ignorable.

Shoot the internet electron bullet. Won't move this time. A HIT!! Dead we are.
