Re: Unofficial "Classic" points

Wow.

What kinda makes the mind scamble for those (as I) who would endorse a return to the pre-chase championship determination is that those/I/we of that ilk sit here looking at the fact, based on the measure of vehement personal support, we now have a 6 time champion, albeit conveniently unrecognized via the manipulation of measure, that likely will surpass those with iconic recoginition.

Not sure of the feeling this ilicits personally. Sometimes it wanders to the feeling that there is an effort afoot by the powers that be to ensure the iconic survive a bit longer by constantly manipulating the method of measure to ensure the artificial perpetuation of the "Hank Aarons" (sp?) of the sport. Why?

Sometimes it wanders to - a "young" (relatively) sport needs to preserve its roots for the somewhat artificial need/ reason of growth/interest. Sad "they" think we so shallow.

While we (here) continue to enjoy the events remaining for this year, the championship determination is over. We have one who is one away from tying the iconic (in "Championships"). We watch with amusement as some ready themselves for the opportunity to - "Oh goody, my guy/gal won the Chase".

Forgettaboutit.

The season champion is crowned. The 10 race consolidation award we will applaud, but less vigorously.

OK, back to sleep.

How's that for a Friday Night Special.

OBTW 6-Time won the pole.

Yeah perhaps PB, but ya know what, we (and me thinks you too) can keep 'em seperate here and enjoy each for their time and what they were.

THAT is the true/real history and root of a sport. A sport matures. Some of its fans do not.

I don't think even Jeff believes he can out do Richard in Victories. Championships is a slight possibility but he'll never get 201.

Pretty sure he's said this more than once. Then again, not sure it's necessary.

And there are those who would'st portray the boy as oblivious to the reality, perhaps even - not so smart.

Not sure that figure (200) will be topped in our lifetime, maybe ever (although "ever" can be awful long).

Again, not sure it really matters.

Someone, sometime, will do 8 championships, perhaps more. Be interesting to see how 200 is viewed and discussed when it happens.

I'll be watching either from above or below when that time comes.

Agree, as championships was what I was speaking of not race wins.Jeff may catch Pearson but not Petty in wins.Heck it would take 33 years at full time just to get Petty's starts being the way things are today.
