Re: My first time! No and my response may be a bit cynical. The first time I went to Loudon it took me 4 1/2 hours to get out of the parking lot. The last race I went to was at Charlotte Motor Speedway and the exiting there was pretty fast. Never been to Phoenix

Re: My first time! Fun for sure. Likely you'll get the "chill" when they come out of the last turn to the green and ya hear 'em "wind it up". LOUD. Do have available some form of ear protection. Toasty - Sun screen and a hat/head cover advised. As noted by others, there will be many folks and their vehicles. Ya will be waiting for one thing or another at some point in the day (entrance, exit, hot dog, etc.). And then there's - Fun Tell us all in your own words afterwards. Enjoy.

It is very different than on TV! As much as we hate the announcers, when you are at the race, it's hard to keep track of the drivers once the race settles down. As LSC mentioned, Loudon is a madhouse! Don't know about Phoenix, but park out of the track if you can. It's worth the extra money. Bring your own food and beverages (including water) if you can. The food at the track is typically way overpriced and pretty nasty. If they sell beer, you can bet you'll pay through the teeth and stand in line for a good portion of the race. If you are a beer drinker, I would contact the track to see what the restrictions for cooler size and contents are. I'm assuming glass is prohibited. Get to the track early. And I mean early. For me, I enjoy poking around at the novelty trucks without the massive crowds. I also enjoy watching everyone get set up for the race. Trust me. You're going to have a blast! You're gonna love driver introductions and the reaction from the crowd. It's also cool to see the drivers in the back of the car/truck as they ride around waving to the crowd after their introduction. I also hope you are on the front stretch and can see the pit stops. Amazing. I'm excited for you! I'll never forget my first Cup race! I look forward to hearing about your experience! ![]() http://www.smileycentral.com/sig.jsp?pc=ZSzeb096&pp=ZN

Re: My first time! PPS brought up some really neat stuff that ya ought consider to make your experience more enjoyable. As much as we hate the announcers, when you are at the race, it's hard to keep track of the drivers once the race settles down - MRN broadcasts are (check this) on 464.00 Mhz. Driver frequencies may be found on Jayski.com. Tunable on a scanner. Other option is local radio station that covers race. The headsets that are radios that you will see getting hawked at the track are ignorable. Do a scanner if ya can and be sure the headset you have are the full cup over the ear. If the headset has air vents, cotton covered by duct tape really cuts down the noise and does not degrade the quality of the sound. The vent holes are primarily for speaker cone response for music. cooler size and contents - typically 14" and you can count on "no glass", and indeed, bring your own favorite food. Get to the track early - bunches of good reasons for this. Traffic, walkin' the midway, jabberin' with folks, driver introductions, the "fly over" after the anthem and the reaction to it (near more chills than even the race start - honest) etc., etc. You're gonna have fun.

Re: My first time! I forgot one ... well, two things. Rain Gear: Though I always brought a compact umbrella with me in my backpack, it was confiscated the last time I went to Loudon. I got it back after the race but I also got soaking wet when the rains came. Some sort of rain gear is advised. Smoking: Don't know about Phoenix, but there are lots of smokers at Loudon. Cigarettes, cigars, and the occasional joint. I hate to admit it, but yes, I am a smoker. You are packed like sardines in the stands, and I try very hard not to let my smoking disturb other fans, but it's not easy. It's easier on a windy day. However, the amount of burning rubber and exhaust fumes that folks inhale in the stands can be equally if not more offensive. If you happen to be close to the winner doing a burnout ... need I say more? Trust me, you'll want to take a long, hot shower or jump in the pool when you get home! I always have to throw my disposable contact lenses away when I get home. The track is a dirty place, but I love it! Probably more information than you need ...
