| warren wallace's future??? With the announcement of Nationwide becoming the primary sponsor of what is now the Busch series and Geico insurance being forced out of the series what do you think will become of young up and comming developmental driver Warren Wallace? Will he take his Geico sponsorship to the truck series? Will he search for new sponsorship else where? Will he just be another talented, promissing driver lost in the system? |

Have to admit I'll miss seeing those commercials with that kid. I love them, especially the one " it all ends with me putting him in the wall".

Try this one on for size and tell me how fair it sounds: NA$CAR got Nationwide to sponsor the Cup Lite Series for $12 million per year, right? Now IF NA$CAR gives all $12 million back to the teams (ha Ha Ha, figure THOSE odds!), it looks to me as though it might go something like this: there are 43 cars in each Cup Lite race and they run 35 races per season.. this comes up to 1505 times Nationwide Series sponsor money will be doled out. So, if you divide $12 million by 1505 you get $7973.42 extra dollars each team should get for each race. (I told you this was waay simplified!) Now, assuming the same 43 cars run each race, $7973.42 times 43 (this is the share of the Nationwide deal that one team will get for an entire season) equals $342,857.06. I would assume that, conservatively, GEICO gave Mike Wallace's team owner $10 million to put the irritating lizard on the car. So, the deal NASCAR made and its allowing Nationwide to dictate whether a competing insurance company could sponsor a Cup Lite car, will allow the team to give up a sincere $10 million in order to get #342,857 in prize money??!! Such a deal! That's really looking out for the people who run each week, NA$CAR!

| Re: warren wallace's future??? Since I pay little attention to the amounts of $$$ won by teams I would toss it back to you about being over simplified and ask for further info .... if available. You're saying that they would get an additional $7973.42 but I would ask if it is not doled out in a ratio that goes along with the finishing position ??? Does that make sense ?? |

The numbers are a bit above my comprehension. |

| Re: warren wallace's future??? Part of it comes from NASCAR profits (it's labeled "Cost of doing business") plus prize money kicked in from the Series sponsor and from the people who buy into becoming The Official [fill in blank] of NASCAR. A very minute amount come from the fines levied by NASCAR during the season for sin committed by the faithful. |

| Re: warren wallace's future??? And I thought is was Lorne Wallace!!! But it does suck to have them pushed out. But it seems they had few choices. It was almost a last minute deal, and they dropped the price, according to many sources. I hate the deals that push out sponsors, but this case seems a bit different from the Cup deal. |

Of course, this is nothing new. RJR had an exclusivity agreement with NASCAR since the 70's That is why NASCAR was about the only professional venue that Marlboro wasn't prominent. In my opinion, Nationwide didn't pony up enough money to be rewarded with an exclusivity agreement. |

I just think they caved in when the end of the year was close. Or panicked. I think they were wrong to do it as well. They just panicked, and screwed another sponsor. |

Appreciable amounts of the monies generated by Sales & Marketing were targeted for participant reward, however the preponderence of the prize money came from event sponsors (i.e. The Subway 500; Joe's Corner Garage and Laundromat, etc). Were we to have performed the excercise that has put spurs to the discussion here, and further stretching the assumption line (even though it already appears about to break) to say all $12 of this series sponsors money was to go to Sales and Marketing, we might do the hypothetical - "that's $1 per participating team" - simply as a challenge to that department to ensure their efforts return greater than a simple direct distribution of the funds to the teams. So, all of the above goes back to the simple previously stated - near none / very little of the series sponsors money is ever targeted/budgeted for prize money. |
