Aerosmith or Brooks & Dunn

Was just watchin' ESPN2 just prior to Cup Happy Hour. Someone was (it seemed) trying to sell someone (good luck trying it be me) that Aerosmith = NASCAR. Fast, loud and some other measure that we missed here was the "proof"(?) that indeed Aerosmith = NASCAR.

Got to wonderin' where the GTG population would land on the question - With the only comparative or relative choices/analogy being Aerosmith or Brooks and Dunn, - which is more NASCAR to/for you?

For those who cannot expand beyond - "gee, I really don't like the music of either" - the choice - "I'd rather be deaf" would be offered.

What a dope I are - Make the thread title - Aerosmith or Brooks & Dunn

Re: Aerosmith or Brooks & Dunn

Even though I'm much more of a Rock fan, I do like some country. I did vote for Brooks and Dunn. They were at races, and hanging with Sr, when it wasn't the quite the big thing it is now.

Re: Aerosmith or Brooks & Dunn

This is a TRICK QUESTION!!!

Um, let me see... would you choose a band like Metallica or... uh, Hanoi Rocks??? Hanoi Rocks was very good but, c'mon now!!!

Yeah, you got my point... Aerosmith has been around since Peter Frampton and the Bee Gees in Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band movie, and ADR (all due respect) to Brooks & Dunn, it's like comparing a R&R LEGEND to a very good band!

Aerosmith is my choice... but I agree with SS... they are NOT NASCAR! NASCAR is "Sweet Home Alabama" and other KILLER country rock songs (Black Betty, to name one...) by true blue KILLER Country Rock bands!!!

"The Devil Went Down to Georgia" by Charlie Daniels is my ULTIMATE, 100% Country rock song! Sweeeeet!

Nazareth... EXCELLENT CHOICE!!!

What about "Ramblin Man"???

"...I was born in the back seat of a Greyhound bus... rollin' down highway 41..."

If that ain't America, I don't know what is!!!

Re: Aerosmith or Brooks & Dunn

Ok, you're gonna just love my reasoning. After almost 20 years of vocal and instrumental training, I cannot possibly vote for Aerosmith simply because Steven Tyler (is that right?) cannot carry a tune in a bucket. It goes against everything I've ever learned, every technique, every breathing exercise - sorry Aerosmith fans. Brooks and Dunn don't hurt my ears. They can actually sing, so I voted for them. For reason's I can't explain, I like Springsteen for that true Americana feel, even though his early stuff was pretty rebellious. (Ever really listen to the words of "Born in the USA"?) Or Bob Dylan. Now see, I've totally contradicted myself, because those two will never make the Three Tenor's a "fivesome". Who's the chick that sings "Shut up and Drive?" That song gets my vote. Never going to win a Grammy, but it fits the racing scene, kind of. At least that one line does. How about "Born to be Wild"? "Get you motor runnin'..." Alrighty, I'm done now.

Re: Aerosmith or Brooks & Dunn

I'm starting to think NASCAR's offical song should be "The Night They Drove Ole Dixie Down" by The Band, since there's no more Alabama boys racing, looks like nobody from North Carolina is gonna win a race this year, which hasn't happened in a long time, there were empty seats at Talladega last Sunday, and the influx of all those foreign drivers coming in, but I digress...

Brooks & Dunn all the way! They were good friends with Dale

Re: Aerosmith or Brooks & Dunn

Hmmm, I wonder who the ONE PERSON is who voted "I'd rather be deaf" in this poll so far!!!

He (or she) is probably the person who calls the COPS on their neighbors if the partying gets too loud!!!

And I agree with Spacey that Steven Tyler can't sing a lick but he sure has a cute daughter (who can't ACT a lick!!!)

Re: Aerosmith or Brooks & Dunn

Infield or camper parkin' lot night b4 the race with Marshal Tucker, Little Joe and the Fish, Little Feat, Lynyrd Skynrd, Charlie Daniels, Hank, Willie, Waylon, Jim Beam, Ol No. 7, mason jars, more --- NOW we're talking get down NASCAR. Cut teeth here on this stuff.

Likely less and less to ever be fully appreciated again.

I was the one who would rather be deaf. Mainly because I REALLY am. And NOPE, I never call the cops about anything I can't hear. I just don't quite understand what music has to do with racin'. But then again, Being deaf, I don't understand what music has to do with anything.

From my perch on the fence I don't think music has anything to do with NASCAR. I find the question to be more pointed to "who do you identify with NASCAR the most?" I see country/western more aligned with NASCAR than I do Steven Tyler type of music. I can listen to a relatively wide variety of tunes but just don't see R&R as the music of NASCAR. Somehow, in my view, I don't see Lawrence Welk or any Polka music tied into NASCAR either.

Just my view.
