| Congressional staffers told to get vaccinations before NASCAR race? One of the funniest stories of the year struck here yesterday when it came out that Washington Congressional staffers for the House committee on Homeland Security had been told to get vaccinations for hepatitis A, hepatitis B, tetanus, diphtheria and influenza before heading down to Talladega for last weekend's race and up to Concorde for this weekend's race. The staffers are to study potential health issues at such mass events. Yes NASCAR may have its rabid fans, but Charlotte promoter Humpy Wheeler, when he finally stopped laughing, said that Washington's call was "like taping your ankles to go to the mailbox." And Wheeler, easily NASCAR's best and most innovative promoter (who called once again on car-eating, flame-throwing Robosaurus for last night's pre-race show), denies the Washington move was any public-relations stunt. Wheeler was a bit upset at the issue, pointing out that NASCAR country "is not some third-world or fourth-world country. -- Winston-Salem Journal Winston-Salem Journal | NASCAR Notebook: Congressional staffers told to get vaccinations |

| Re: Congressional staffers told to get vaccinations before NASCAR race? Minor correction: Please replace "staffers" with "staphers". Innoculations will be at the Lowe's pedestrian overpass - for so long as it does not collapse. |

| Re: Congressional staffers told to get vaccinations before NASCAR race? WTF? "study potential health issues at such mass events."?? Ok. Are they at the American/National League Baseball Championship games? Is this a Homeland Security issue as in the potential for terrorism? Health risk? Walk into any grocery store, mall, pharmacy, or hospital in the United States and touch anything, and you will be exposed to far more infectious diseases than at Cup event! Wash your hands folks! What are they going to do? Take air samples? Swab the bathrooms? Take food samples from the concessions? I know politics are banned, but HELLO Mr. So-and-So! Homeland Security was not put in place to guard against potential disease within mass crowds at sporting events! Terrorism at sporting events? Yes. If Homeland Security is straying so far from its original intent to be concerned about NASCAR events, why not focus on the school-related shootings over the past two weeks instead? As Campbell said ... tax-payer money at work! At least its not on the speed that ketchup flows out of the bottle! That one killed me ... and yes, we paid for that! My brain has just turned to Jell-O!

Homeland Security studying the health risks at a NASCAR race is ridiculous ... more than ridiculous ... but I don't know a more appropriate word! I'm sure Mr. Tanner does! |

| Re: Congressional staffers told to get vaccinations before NASCAR race? Obviously you haven't seen the other news where the home school kid was arrested when a friend told authorities that the boy wanted him to help him stage a "columbine" type event. And the kid's mother was arrested because she was buying him the freaking guns. The kid's father wanted to buy them but couldn't because he was a convicted felon. |

| Re: Congressional staffers told to get vaccinations before NASCAR race? Funny thing is that there has been an outbreak of shaph infections at several of the high schools in the surrounding Md/Va area. The Charlotte fans need to get innoculations against the people coming down from DC!! |
