Exclamation Bobby LaBonte Needs Driving Lessons

apparently Bobby LaBonte needs driving lessons and shouldnt have been driving at Talladega

seems many said basically the same thing about Villenueve thinking he may cause the "big one" because he doesnt know how to drive a Cup car

well, feel the same way about Bobby ?

There ya go again Simon ... defending the underdog. Just STOP IT !!!

I'll step up to the plate (again) and admit that I may have been wrong in my assumption that Jacques shouldn't be there. First off I was unaware that he had a ton of track time in the COT. I will still stand by my feeling that inexperienced drivers need not apply !!! Basically I wish these open wheelers or drivers from other series would be encouraged (firmly) to do a stint in the lower series to get a feel for the car and the tracks

I don't know BBW, he said both back wheels were up, the rear end just went out from under him for some reason. He was flabbergasted.

Re: Bobby LaBonte Needs Driving Lessons

maybe if he had logged more time in a Cup car at Talladega he could have avoided causing the wreck

Re: Bobby LaBonte Needs Driving Lessons

I had a very long response typed out for this, but I deleted it out of good faith. So that said I will just roll my eyes and sarcastically agree.

Yes Bobby Labonte the winner of 9 Busch races, 21 Cup Races, 3 IROC races, the 1991 Busch Camp, the 2000 Cup Champ, the 2001 IROC Champ, Mr Atlanta(6 wins), winner at tracks like Brickard (1 Cup & 1 IROC), Talladega (1 Cup & 2 IROC), Darlington, Charlotte, Dover, Homestead, Michigan, Martinsville, Pocono, and The Rock needs to take driving lessons. I agree. Hell lets park him all together.

I think you get the point.

Edit: I do understand the point you are making. I just figured if you are going to be sarcastic about it so would I.

im glad you posted that

obviously i mean no disrespect to Bobby, he was picked simply because he caused the wreck so many figured Villenueve would cause

Lets just look at it this way. Statistically Villeneuve had a higher, percentage wise, chance to wreck or to cause the wreck. We're all glad he didn't. We all knew that "the big one" would happen ... it happens every year. My point was and is that percentage wise a driver with little experience in the series and cars has a higher "CHANCE" of causing the big one. The name of the person is unimportant.

You can read back through my posts and see that I'm an advocate of learning the car and tracks at a lower level prior to getting into the big league.

Re: Bobby LaBonte Needs Driving Lessons

I think Labonte's record speaks for itself.

The Big One is inevitable there and it sucks for the driver that causes it.

Re: Bobby LaBonte Needs Driving Lessons

I wonder if the rear wing could have some how creted lift , when bobby was up tight to the wall coming off the turn.

I would realy like to hear the findings on this, bobby said the car was stuck to the track all day, then it just jumped out, maybe a panhard bar broke from the added traction @ 190 mph ???

any guesses ???

Re: Bobby LaBonte Needs Driving Lessons

When I saw the wreck I thought for sure it was a cut tire. I was surprised to hear that the tires were not flat. It would seem to me the COT for some reason went from stuck to the track to loose. I would think it is an 'Aero' problem. That would be a shame because one of the things the COT was supposed to eliminate was the Aero-conditions was it not?

If it was Villeneuve who snapped around this board and 42 other drivers would be saying I told you so. Since it was a proven veteren the incident is simply a case of a car getting away at 190MPH. I don't feel Bobby Labonte or ANY driver could have done anything different in that situation, just one of them racing deals.

because Bobby is a proven STOCKCAR driver, and yes I would've been one to say I told you so.

but all so I will be the first to eat crow......villeneuve was very smart to drop back and get a feel for the cars, and I am glad he did well, also glad he caught the wall, not because I wanted him to wreck but rather for him to get the experience how car these car can get away from you.

go job JV.

Actually you'll be the second to eat crow. I already admitted that he did the right thing since he was in the race but I still strongly feel that all drivers should spend some time in the minors to get to know the cars and to get familiar with the tracks.

I had a leg and a wing and found them a bit tough to swallow !!!

Re: Bobby LaBonte Needs Driving Lessons

Uh, maybe Labonte's draft lock came unlocked and that's why the car suddenly turned left on him
