Re: Bank of America 500 @ Lowes Motor Speedway - "Live Chat"

I was going to post this earlier but had to put my son to bed...I have never understood how these cars end up with battery problems (Like Kenseth) so early in a race. What goes bad? It seems like they would check the battery and associated parts thoroughly and I'm sure they use brand new batteries and alternators when they start a race...
I can understand losing an engine or transmission because of all the moving parts...but the electrical system??? Can someone please offer an explanation...

They have many a few things that draw high amps. Now they are travelin at high rates of speed, the car is constantly bumpin and can loosen things up, or jar certain metal parts touchin wires in certain spots, and whala batteries go. You have to think it is the same basic principle as a passenger car. The alternator could be bad, or bad wire/connection. The difference is horsepower and speed.

He has had that all year. He also had Verizon.... Of course Verizon couldn't stay on the Cup car because of Nextel. Motorola was off for a certain amount of time, but I think people actually thought about that one, and let them be on there.

11 gallons. Notice the 1" tube that goes to the bottom of the can? Thats for air to escape and drains the can in seconds. The dry break on the car and the dry break probe are 2 1/2" in diameter. So 11 gallons goes pretty fast.

This is a huge pet peeve of mine...always missing action during commercial breaks. Why in the world can't they keep the race showing in a small box during commercials. I think the IRL does or did this. I would think the commercial people would be for it...it would keep viewers tuned in during the commercials instead of running to the frig or taking a potty break.

NA$CAR was quoted as saying they had explored the in race screen for commercials and didn't find any benefit to the sponsors or fans.... then they immediately tried to save face and say they didn't mean to make it sound the way it had come out. Fans aren't stupid, they know who NA$CAR was really tryin to cater to.
