| Dodge Dealers 400 Observations 2007 Chase Race 2 is history. Here's some things about it that caught my eye: Pre-Game Show:
Kenseth's Paint Job: finally Matt has a paint scheme on his car I like! that yellow thing is just plain ugly. Tony's List Grows: guess we can add Menard to Tony's list of dummkopfs who get in his way... also, seemed to me I saw Tony really close to Sorenson when Sorenson bumped into Shrader, sending Shrader spinning .. surely Tony wasn't moving slower cars out of the way... Mark & Pitting: Mark's radio transmission early in the race on Stremme's screwed up pitting was not x-rated, but also not complimentary. Also, later in the race, it looked like Mark was gonna get penalized for pitting with his RR outside his pit box, but NASCAR realized Mark was straight and square in the pit, but the pit lines weren't so turned a blind eye to the infraction (one of the few times NASCAR has decided not to disrupt Mark's races...) Happy Goes Down 2 & Nobody Cares: The announcer's bias was really obvious when Happy went down 2 laps for a flat tire and hardly a mention, but when JJ had the same problem with the same result, you'd a thought the world was coming to an end. Kenseth & Riser "Fired Up": Was that really Matt in the 17 car early in the race .. sure wasn't a typical Kenseth run - charging to the front and battling Hamlin and others all day for the lead. Even though he had bad luck at the end, he appeared upbeat because they've finally found the handling they've been missing. Expect Matt to be a major factor in the Chase now that he can run up front most of the race. (And how about that little statistic: 31 months between engine failures? Many teams would love to have half that .. DEI for example!) Hamlin's Aggression: I thought Denny was being a tad aggressive (do pills do that?) when he bumped Kyle .. apparantly Kyle did also. I thought we were going to see an "altercation" in the garage, but NASCAR (finally) stepped between them. Kyle has impressed me with his command of the language so I'm sure Denny had no problem understanding where Kyle was coming from (even if he was a little doped up.) And Kyle repeated it for the cameras (and mikes) a few minutes later, just to make sure there was an official record. 6 On Lead Lap w/45 To Go: And a caution flies. One of many to follow. But there's no split screen on the pit stops .. Mark is leading the race and they never showed his pit stop! However, they did manage to get 2nd thru 4th on camera .. one at a time. Teammates Crash Together: Should have been Penske's moto for Sunday. Ryan summed it up in his interview: "I probably should have stayed in it when we got 3 wide (and crashed the 2 car) .. or maybe just drove thru the 2 car .. at least that way maybe there wouldn't have been anybody else involved. " Too bad, I really was enjoying seeing the Penske cars doing well .. they've just recently started running in the lead pack again. Rusty's Advice: Rusty was talking to Carl while the race was stopped to clear the mayhem from the track when he asked Carl whether they were going to take tires or not. Instead of answering him, Carl asked Rusty for advice. Rusty said: "if you haven't run over anything yet, don't take any tires." Carl & Bob heeded Rusty's advice .. and Carl lead the rest of the way, steadily pulling away. 6 Cars On Lead Lap At Finish: Despite some major wrecks, engine failures, and other problems. So part of the top 10 finished on the lead lap and part finished a lap down. Commercials: BK's ninja chicken, "aawwwwk!" & Comcast's "Televiserphonernetting" or something like that. Mikey's Gasman, Art Harris: I missed the action the first time around, but caught the replays. Reed Sorenson just missed the tire, but David Ragan had no chance to avoid it. The replays show Art scrambling to get out of the way, to no avail. He took a hit in the helmet from a 50+ pound flying object. I guess he'll be a little sore this week. Thankfully the hospital gave him a thumbs up. Chasers Having Problems: I started keeping track of the Chasers as the race went along who were having problems. Here's the list: Harvick, Johnson, Boyer, Stewart, Hamlin, Truex, Kenseth, Kyle Busch, & Kurt Busch. Only 3 escaped problems: Edwards, Gordon & Burton, though the last 2 didn't run all that well the entire race. Updated Chase Standings:
One finish position could move any of the first 4 into the lead - that's how close it is right now.

| Re: Dodge Dealers 400 Observations I also enjoy your observations. May I add something? I liked the fact that ABC/ESPN tried to go the final 40 laps commercial free. And by the way, who the hell is "Happy"? |

The name of these threads is "Observations" for a reason: to stimulate conversation about the race and things that are noticed by both me and you. I appreciate all additions 'cause I'll be the first to admit I didn't see/hear "everything", nor did I catch all the oddities. You might say, I start the ball rolling and wait to see what it gathers as it rolls along. I guess I forgot about the commercial free part because it really never had a chance... Thanks for adding it, Penny. Here's hoping they try to do it every race. Your question about Harvick's nickname triggered a question: do we need to have a thread similar to the "definitions" thread that contains nicknames? I know I use them all the time, and just thought everyone knew who I was talking about, but seems I was wrong (2nd time this month!) would such a thread help? |

As far as the race is concerned, the top of my head blew off about the bezillionth time Rusty said "aero loose". My new definition of "aero loose" is "Rusty's lips". All that gum flappin' - had to hit "mute"! Button 'em or expand your vocabulary!

| Re: Dodge Dealers 400 Observations yeah that aero loose was BS, they were saying the samething in the busch race, when the replay cearly showed the inside car push up and tag the tail of the spinning car. sorry can't remember what cars were involed. might have been wimmer in the 29, pushing up
