NASCAR's Chase for the Nextel Cup has begun, but you wouldn't necessarily know it unless somebody told you.
Despite NASCAR's best promotional efforts, its playoffs haven't grown into the must-see phenomenon that other major sports present at season's end. The Chase isn't in the same league as the postseason for the NFL, which marches to the Super Bowl; or baseball, which climaxes with the World Series; or college basketball, which travels the road to the Final Four.
NASCAR hasn't been at this nearly as long as those other guys -- this is just its fourth season with a postseason ---but one thing is certain: The Chase could use more shine and sparkle to separate it from the rest of the schedule.

well, duh.

how can it be playoffs while everyone is still suiting up?

the only thing that's changed is some numbers and the fact that some drivers (who aren't in the Chase) are being cautious around other drivers (who are in the Chase.) and some drivers (who are in the Chase) are pushing other drivers (who aren't in the Chase) out of the way as if they've been given their "Double 0 License to Kill".

I say let the other drivers who have gotten the shaft be given leeway to make the chase drivers lives a livin hell. If those drivers are suppost to be the best, let them show it by racin EVERYONE on the track, and not expectin the other drivers to just bow to'em. Let's see who the candyasses are and who the real drivers are. Of course we would here Johnson and Gordon cryin cause non-chase drivers had the nerve to race them. But, to hell with'em. There's your pizzaz.

Maybe a little unorthodox, but what isn't these days? I like it. If you're gonna take charity from NASCAR you better be able to prove you can make the most of it. And if you're gonna ride it all the way to a championship, I want to see you racin somebody. It doesn't matter how much dirt gets tossed on top, this is still racing.

Back a couple of weeks ago when Mikey wouldn't just move over for Gordon, I liked what Schrader said on Inside Nextel when they were talking about it. He said, "we're suppose to just move over for them, I thought it was a race". Lapped car or a car not in the chase, the chase drivers think ( and Nascar pretty much agrees) the car is just suppose to move and let them by. I don't agree with that. I love to see them making the chase drivers race to get around them, instead of just moving. Like I always say, if you can't pass them just ride behind them.

I highly doubt you'd here only those two whining. You don't think Stewart and his apparent student Hamlin would be complaining? I think you'd have 12 cry babies out there, not 2. Even the most humble seem to become jerks once they get in the chase. "Get out of the way - I'm in THE CHASE!" Well good for you. But the ultimate power remains with the non-chase drivers. One little tap from one of those guys will take you right out of the running. If I were a Chaser, I'd be suckin' up to the rest of the field in a big way.

I agree JG nad JG would not be the only ones... but they would be the first and the more evident.... unless Tony wrecked someone and got out of his car and spout off at the mouth
