Waltrip losing sponsors for Reutimann?

Michael Waltrip Motorsports figures to pay big for its struggles this season. Already, it appears two primary sponsors on the team's No. 00 car of David Reutimann (Burger King and Domino's Pizza) will not return in 2008. -- Indy Star

if they can get a sponsor and keep him , he'll be fine, don't forget it a start up team, how many start up teams win races or evan make them all today.

Re: Waltrip losing sponsors for Reutimann?

I know the sponsor wants to be with a winning team and driver. But they picked a new team and new manufacture that were both just getting started. To expect to run up front and win races right from the start, I think are setting your expectations alittle to high. I would like to see them stay at least one more year. I have a feeling all the Toyota teams are going to run better next year.

Keep in mind that the sponsor has the right to expect exposure. If they aren't getting what they feel they should get they are only making a smart business decision. I would guess that they are just exercising a contractual option to not renew the contract. They gave it a shot and did not get the expected results. From their point of view what did they do wrong ???

David will be fine. He is talented and can show his talent once he gets in a better situation. Hearing he keeping his options open. That 4th RCR car is a good place for him to land.

My feelings exactly, Mike. My bet is that he'll sign with RCR immediately after the season's over.

I didn't mean they did anything wrong, they haven't. I just mean, keep your expectations along the lines with what you have. For example, Lowes should expect to be running up front and winning alot. Thats a proven team. On the other hand David's is not. It's a new team with a new manufacturer. So in my opinion, they shouldn't expect to run up front and win races right from the start.

I understand completely but they may have seen it differently. Toyota and MWR may have sold them a much larger bill of goods than they have delivered. Their sponsorship budget may tighter than many others so they are just looking for more bang for their buck.

Reads like M&M's and Robert Yates Racing.

True but M&M's stayed for longer than a year. I think that is the point that was being made.

It was only for 1 year. They have given him an extension to look over. So maybe they have sponsorship or figure they will.

Re: Waltrip losing sponsors for Reutimann?

I think coming up with sponsors isn't an impossible task, it's how much are they willing to shell out. It's at the point where 20 plus million per year is a minimum. With today's economy that isn't always possible. Could be why you see some teams with different sponsors from week to week.
