I agree. Long ago, I latched onto the Texaco car. Didn't know who drove it, was new to the sport, but I liked the car. Still do ... even though "what's his name" is driving it.

Latched onto the Wrangler/Goodwrench car partially because of the paint scheme, but primarily because of the driver.

Like the Miller Light car, hate the driver. Like the Home Depot car, like the driver. Funny, huh? I guess it really doesn't matter what the car looks like.

I am disappointed as well. What a let down!

Please tell me what you had to do to get on nascar.com's mailing list?

No offense, please but I just want to make sure I NEVER do anything to get such spam.

Re: Jr and the #88 Pepsi/National Guard car

I like that they changed the scheme's some. He's not driving the same National Guard scheme that Biffle drove. And yes I am one of those who will be buying some of the new stuff.

No offense taken. I actually have no clue how I got on the mailing list. It was a while ago. I delete 99% of the emails without reading, but was interested with this latest announcement. I don't get that much spam from them. Maybe three messages a month.

Actually, as I've said before, by the time news hits NASCAR.com, it's old news. GTG is a better resource.

Re: Jr and the #88 Pepsi/National Guard car

I can only hope that these cars are prototypes to support the announcement.

I'm ducking as I type this, but Gordon's car somewhat resembles Johnson's car and vice versa. Jr.'s should do the same. I know, I know, I'm talking out of my ***.

I don't even like the style of the number. It looks like the robot from "The Day The Earth Stood Still". I don't know why that movie comes to mind, but it does. Or maybe the bolt-headed Frankenstein monster? Too blocky. Not sexy enough. Ooops! Can I say that?

Re: Jr and the #88 Pepsi/National Guard car

I got to thinking about this last night and came up with this idea. I have no concrete proof, just a thought.
Junior loves the history of NASCAR, the old days and the old drivers. At every press conference so far, he's had Darrell Waltrip there as a guest. We all know how close Darrell and Dale got before Dale's death. Darrell used to drive the Mountain Dew 11, which Junior's said he loved. He's even hinted at driving a retro scheme similar to Darrell's 11 sometime in the future. Junior's also said his favorite color for a race car is white.
Now when I put all that together, I can imagine why his new car is schemed the way it is. Maybe he's trying to put a modern day touch on the old day scheme Darrell used. Now I'm hoping it will be at the fall race at Texas so I can see it in person, instead of a picture on the internet.

I agree. Not sure I see a lot of similarities. Even the sponsor doesn't stand out on it.

That's one reason why I was disappointed when I saw it yesterday. But we have to keep in mind, Darrell only had one primary sponsor on that car in 1981, and Junior will have three on his car in 2008. Sadly, I guess that's just a sign of the times I can't embrace. But I don't know how you get around all this sponsorship domination that's taken hold of NASCAR these days.
