Look, I don't know about the rest of you, but every time I use my ATM, I have to choose between English and Español. Every time I call for support for cable, internet, healthcare, etc., I have to choose between English and Español. That's ok. It's just another click. But to say that JPM is responsible for a new audience and is the reason why NASCAR.com is now available in Español is ridiculous.

The option of English vs. Español is quite commonplace these days. JPM can't take credit for that!

Stay with me, Vince ...
Im not giving ALL the credit to JPM, Im merely using him as an example to why the increase in spanish people watching races. It makes sense that the more viewers the more hits the website will get and most of them not being able to read or understand the english..

So you've lived with and done business with these spanish-speaking immigrants for 30 years? I suppose you are fluent in Spanish by now?

Re: NASCAR launches spanish-language web site

This is crazy. The language of the land is English. Will NASCAR.com put their site in Polish if we get a driver from Poland ? Now that the Busch series is in Canada should they add French also ??

OK ... I'll back off on the word "crazy" but I still go with my original thought that English is the language of the land. Does Walmart have a Spanish speaking site. Does NASCAR have just a Spanish site ??? What about all the other foreign speaking fans?

Been to a Lowes lately? Walk up to the door and get greeted to an "ENTRADA" sign.

Re: NASCAR launches spanish-language web site

If anyone would care to look beyond their noses they'd see that, except for possibly Chinese, Spanish is the most widely spoken language in the world. That, dear friends, is because the Spanish colonized most of the world many years before your grandparents were born. I also happen to know that just outside Minneapolis lives some very quiet people who can barely speak english, some not but about a half a dozen words. Those people are Finnish and many have been here 40 years or more. Why nor rail against them?

And for those that don't know, English is the official language of business world wide and the official language of Aviation, world wide. When you fly into any country in the world, the tower speaks only English. How do you think the people in, say, Poland or Paraguay or Zimbabwe, like that?

I live in Texas, and am very, very aware of the Mexican influence on our system. And I'm very, very aware of the illegal problem. But that doesn't have anything to do with NASCAR, nor a NASCAR website intended for Spanish speaking people.

Vince said it's probably because of JPM's popularity, I think he's right .. do you honestly think Jimmy Johnson, Dale Jr. or Jeff Gordon could pack the Motodromo in Mexico City like JPM? He may not be as popular in the US, but he's a super star in the Latin American countries. But I guess we have the "Ugly American" problem all over again.

Vince doesn't understand what's going on .. but I do. I remember the Germans in the US and how they were treated during WWI and WWII. And the American citizens of Japanese decent were imprisoned during WWII because of hate and bigotry. You people sound just like those bigots.

If you have a problem with illegal immigration, talk to your congressman. That's what they're there for. But it's not NASCAR's fault, nor JPM's fault, nor Aric Amirola's fault, nor Marcos Ambrose's fault .. it's your fault because all you do is stand around and ***** about it instead of holding the people in Washington's feet to the fire over this thing. Direct your venom towards the culprits, not the innocents.

Re: NASCAR launches spanish-language web site

I don't see what the problem is with them having a Spanish web site. I think the Busch race has proven there are plenty of fans in Mexico. I see nothing wrong with having a web site for them.

Well, RD, you pissed me off to the point where I had to walk away and go calm down, to the point where I'm thinking this forum is not worth the anxiety your post caused me. I am not a BIGOT. Do not presume to know what I have or have not done to protest the country's problems. I do not ***** to hear myself talk. I have spoken with many, many military liaison's of US Senator's regarding major issues in the military, one of which nearly killed my eldest child. They were pretty much friggin' useless, but I still keep trying. I said I have no problem with the web site. I do have a problem with people who don't make the effort to learn the language of the land they live in. Any land, any language, anywhere. Why does that make me a bigot???? I have a Jewish grandmother, black grandmother, Native American husband, an uncle in a mental insitution and my youngest daughter is gay. I would have to really search for a group to be prejudice against that somehow didn't affect me or a family member personally, now wouldn't I! I am the least prejudiced person on the planet. And don't tell me to re-read your post. My reading comprehension skills are great - the implication was there. "You people sound like those bigots" may not be "you people are bigots", but we get your drift loud and clear. Holy s###, I am pissed.

Re: NASCAR launches spanish-language web site

Sadly this thread seems to be out of control in respect to opinions so for the betterment of everyone consider it closed. Please understand that my comment is not pointed at anyone. I just feel that the opinions expressed here are strongly felt by those giving them and probably no one is going to change. No harm, no foul. We'll agree to disagree.
