Last ride for Jr. this year?

Its a distinct possibility........

from Cupscene.com:

LAST RIDE FOR JUNIOR?
If Earnhardt Junior does not make the Chase, could he be taken out of the No. 8 before the end of the season?
September 8

The immediate future for Dale Earnhardt Junior isn’t exactly a bright one. NASCAR’s most popular driver is a long shot to make this year’s field for the Chase for the Nextel Cup and although he could still squeeze in should others suffer misfortune at Richmond Saturday night, he really has two chances; slim and none.

After missing the Chase in 2005, Earnhardt Junior appears to be well on the way to waking up Sunday morning on the outside looking in again as 12 drivers compete for this years championship.

There is also a possibility, a very real one according to some, that Earnhardt may wake up Sunday morning without a ride for the rest of the season.

Because Saturday night’s race at Richmond might be the last one for Earnhardt Junior at Dale Earnhardt Incorporated at least for the foreseeable future.

Sources close to Dale Earnhardt Incorporated indicate that there are no provisions in any contract with Earnhardt Junior that would prevent the team from pulling him from the No. 8 should he not make the Chase for the championship.

In fact they said, that very real possibility exists and is being seriously discussed.

Earnhardt Junior announced his intention to leave the only team he’s ever raced for earlier this year; he then signed with Hendrick Motorsports beginning in 2008.

There are some who said that the move was precipitated by a private feud between Earnhardt Junior’s stepmother and himself. Further they add, by not allowing Earnhardt Junior to take the actual number 8 with him Hendrick his stepmother as another shot in the ongoing dispute.

Forcing Earnhardt Junior to the sidelines for the rest of the season would be the final parting shot.

Mark Martin and Aric Almirola, already given the nod as the driver pair to share the No. 8 Chevy in 2008 would step into the ride beginning at New Hampshire.

Whether the talk is serious and Earnhardt Junior would be fired should he not make the Chase or if it’s simply a motivational tool, remains to be seen.

He could wakeup Sunday morning with a hangover; a bad one or a good one.

NA$CAR has no control of how the teams manage their personnel.

<YAWN!>

That being said, if NASCAR allows DEI to do such a [logical] thing, I will be as surprised as if someone were to come out with undeniable prove of Global Warming.

Somehow, I believe that if this becomes fact, the final say so in this will come from Anheiser-Busch, not DEI or NA$CAR.

They paid their money to have Junior drive theirb red car. My bet is that they will want to squeeze every penny of value out of the agreement before the Bud #8 becomes the Army #8.

But then my phone hasn't been ringing off the hook with calls from team owners and sponsors soliciting my advice so what do I know? <g>

Possibly if DEI were willing to let Bud out of their contract something like that could happen. Everyone needs to agree before anyone leaves.

Kurt left Rousch early in part to some legal issues that Kurt got into.

Re: Last ride for Jr. this year?

What a PR nightmare this would be for DEI and NASCAR. Of course we don't know the full extent of Teresa and Junior's feelings towards each other, but if she did this, no matter what Max Siegel and DEI says, it will appear as spiteful and vengeful on Teresa's part. After all that's been said about her to this point, this would make it so bad that not even Junior could calm it down. And it won't matter if it's a "good race move" or not. The red army won't care. All they'll see is Junior getting fired by his step mom. Unless Jr. says it's a mutual agreement and finishes out the year driving a car under JR Motorsports or a Hendrick's car, the red army could very well stop coming to the tracks for the rest of the year. This would negatively effect the track owners and the vendors in their pocket books. If the seats aren't filled and the vendors aren't selling all that Jr stuff, that will become more important to them than NASCAR's precious chase for the championship.

Re: Last ride for Jr. this year?

Why not? Let Mark and Aric get used to the 8 car and Ragan Smith in the 01 some. And maybe Jr. can drive a Hendrick if for Casey Mears just to get used to it some time

Re: Last ride for Jr. this year?

I would guess that Budweiser has no intention of letting him out of his contract. There is just way to much for everyone involved to lose with 10 races left.

Re: Last ride for Jr. this year?

For some reason I just don't think she'd take him out of the car right now. I believe he'll finish the year out there. She stills want DEI to run good and look good. Why would she do something like that and turn alot of folks against DEI.
As for alot of fans not showing up if Jr isn't there, thats crazy on their part. I'm a big Jr fan and all, but even if he wasn't in the race, I'd still watch.

Re: Last ride for Jr. this year?

It would not surprise me if this happens but with 10 races left, what would DEI stand to gain by doing this?

I mean, it's not like Mark Martin needs wheel time considering his experience and sure, Amirola could use the wheel time but Amirola in favor of Junior? If DEI wants to really estrange more fans and drive them further away, there would be no better way to accomplish that than by suspending Earnhardt Jr.

I hope it doesn't happen because it would be terrible for the sport but if it does, it would not surprise me one bit!

Re: Last ride for Jr. this year?

nope won't happen, to many concracts tie them all together, plus you still have the race for 13th, does that still pay 1 million ? also it wouldn't matter if the red army didn't show, that tickets have been paid for for months, and they'll show next year to see jr. in HMS car.
but could you see the turmoil that would happen at daga.

a good PR move for DEI would be to give the #8 car a farewell paint scheme for jr./bud.

and good for DEI's pocket book: imagine the die cast sales off this one car!
