Earnhardt Jr. needS miracle

Clint Bowyer and Martin Truex Jr. need only to start Saturday night's race at Richmond to join Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin, Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Burton and Kyle Busch in the Chase for the Nextel Cup. Kurt Busch is 141 points ahead of 13th-place Dale Earnhardt Jr. and needs only to finish 36th or better to clinch. Kevin Harvick is 128 points ahead of Earnhardt Jr. and needs only 32nd or better. A different way to look at how slim Earnhardt Jr.'s hopes are is this: Earnhardt Jr. has to finish at least fourth and lead a lap to have any shot of making the Chase. And that only works if Harvick finishes last. -- Charlotte Observer

I would love to see Kurt Busch miss the chase, I don't know why but I of all the drivers he is about the only one I don't care for. I spent Saturday night cheering for the 8 and hoping to see the 2 blow up of hit the wall.

Re: Earnhardt Jr. needS miracle

As much as I pull for Jr, I think he needs more than a miracle to make the chase. I just don't see him doing it this year.

Oh my Gawd! The King of the Red Army missing the Playoffs???!!! First Al Gore tells us the world will end because of global warming. Now we face this!!??

I'm going out and stock up on .223 ammo, canned goods and bottled water! Obviously civilization, as we know it, is about to crumble before our eyes!

Anarchy will prevail and I can only shudder at the potential numbers of people, who spent vast sums of dollars on overpriced #8 and Budweiser souvenirs, throwing themselves from the tallest buildings!

Let us all say a fervent prayer that if Saturday nite is indeed an apocalyptic night for Junior, that the sun actually does rise Sunday morning!

Re: Earnhardt Jr. needS miracle

funny thing is that harvick is on a steady slide down the point latter, it seems that he tends to cool off in later summer, not that he has really been very hot this year, just consistant. but he usually runs well at richmond.

Re: Earnhardt Jr. needS miracle

Almost all the Junior fans I know, are already looking forward to next year with the excitement of a little boy looking forward to Christmas. It gives them a good reason to tell the wives why they absolutely need the money to go to the local NASCAR stores, and start over buying all that new stuff.

Kinda like, what do you get the man who has everything red with an 8 on it?
Anything and everything with a new color and a new number on it

I might be the ONLY person in the free world to not understand the rationality of the above concept. The idea that people would spend more than a very casual amount of money on this stuff is just something I don't understand.

Bob, I agree with you after looking at all of the outdated stuff that I own. I have an 01 Khaki shirt with Joe Nemecheck's autograph on the sleeve; a Number 2 Miller Lite shirt and hat with Rusty Wallace embrodried on it; a Number 38 M&Ms hat with Elliot Sadler's signature; a Number 42 Bell South hat signed by Kenny Irwin (died in a crash in NH). I also have a Terry LaBonte #5 Kellogg's T-shirt, an autographed Stacey Compton hat and a Buckshot Jones T-shirt from year ago. This year I only went to Bristol (August night race) and I am planning to go for the Championships at Homestead-Miami. I will keep walking by the trailer sales.

Fear not Bob, next year we are gonna go with the top 43 for the chase. Chances are a little better that Jr will make it for sure.
