Nashville ASA race to honor Adam Petty

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Music City Motorplex will honor Adam Petty, who was killed in 2000 while practicing for a Busch Series race, during the 25th annual All-American 400.

The All-American 400, scheduled for Nov. 2-4, is an ASA Late Model Series race which pits stock car drivers from the North and South against one another.
Pattie Petty said she and her husband - NASCAR driver Kyle Petty - were honored by the motorplex's decision to name the race for their son.

"He loved to race at Nashville and we loved to watch him race there," she said. "Kyle and I saw him really get excited as he truly learned his skills and gained great confidence on that track. He grew up there when he was very young watching both his dad and his granddad race there."

Adam Petty, the grandson of racing great Richard Petty, died instantly when the throttle of the car he was driving at New Hampshire International Speedway stuck, sending the car into a wall.

The Adam Petty Memorial All-American 400 will benefit the Victory Junction Gang Camp, a camp created by his parents in Randleman, N.C., for children with chronic medical conditions or other serious health conditions.

"Their commitment to the camp and seeming endless desire to help others is an inspiration for all of us," Music City Motorplex president Joe Mattioli said
