Mathmatically NASCAR says we're all wrong

NASCAR.COM - Do the numbers support today's Golden Age label? - Aug 29, 2007

Quote:
The sanctioning body recently issued a statistical analysis in an attempt to prove that "racing since 1970 has become more competitive and more unpredictable than ever."
If you have to break out statistics to "prove" your side of the argument that todays racing is better than 35 years ago....well that might prove your off on a tangent already.

Let the product speak for itself, not mathmeticians.

To many people the quality, competitiveness and unpredictability of today's racing goes back to ... the last race (and how their favorite did!)

Looks like NASCAR has their heads in the sand. Being competitive on the track is only one aspect of NASCAR. Comparing today's racing with racing 20 or 30 years ago is like comparing a salad and a pizza to say which one is better. There's way to many variables you can manipulate in your favor. And if the competitiveness of drivers on the track is their measuring stick, where are the rivalries we saw 20 and 30 years ago? If NASCAR wants to defend their present day status with track statistics only, then they've truly lost scope of the overall picture we see as race fans.

Absolutely! What the h#ll is going on? The PR firm that NASCAR is paying top dollar for has no clue what they're talking about.

I feel like the Cowardly Lion in the Wizard of Oz. "Let me at 'em! Let me at 'em!" I'm sure many members of GTG could put a better spin on this.

As LSC states, "Figures lie and liars figure." Ain't that the truth all around?

Apples, oranges. Salad, pizza.
