OK, I'm listening to Sirius on my "bomm box" as we speak, and David Poole just said he has "heard" that Hendrick Motor sports has applied for a trademark on the following numbers.

81-This we have heard

82

51-Supposedly this would be to honor Neil Bonnett, who was killed at Daytona driving this number.

38-This is a rumor we have all read.

Feel free to comment on this one as well! I have grown tired of the number talk, but for me the 38 or 51 would be cool choices.

I think it would be great to honor Neil in that way.

I still think he should just drive the damn #5, that car has a pretty proud history in it's own right. But I guess I'm in the minority on that one!

Cool! I haven't seen many say that, but I have sort of tuned out the number talk, until I saw this, so I may have missed it..

Great to see some others that feel the same way.

If he must change, at least the 51 would keep the five in there, so that would be my choice if it changes.

I don't care what number he drives. I just want to see him prove his worth. When he gets to HMS big things are expected. I'm not saying he isn't capable but he'll sure make DEI look good if he doesn't perform any better.

I don't see why he can't just drive the #5. It don't even matter what number he drives to me, I could care less, I pull for the driver not the number. I don't sit here on Sunday's and say come on #8. Put all the numbners in a hat and draw one if thats hard to decide.

I agree but that may be because we don't have a number tattooed on us. I think that is pretty redneck anyway.

I know some drivers are identified by the numbers of the cars that they had the most success in, but Junior should just forget about the #8 and make a fresh start driving the #5. Once he wins a couple Cups driving the #5 then all this talk of the significance of #8 will be moot....

My guess is that since he's not getting the 8 then he probably doesn't care what number he drives. I think the media is making more of the numbers game than Jr. Just use the 5. The 51 in honor of Bonnett would be lost on most Jr fans these days I'm sure.
