| Re: The "New" Bristol That was when I first went to a Bristol race. They had, as I remember, small concrete stands on the front stretch, real small concrete stands on the back, and grass hillsides on both turns. That was where I sat, under a tree, on top of the T3/4 hill. IRT my feelings on the "New Bristol:" One race is not a fair test of what a track is capable of. I didn't see it live (went to our local track instead) but from the small bit I watched on my DVR, I liked the side-by-side racing, but it didn't look like there was much of the old "beatin' and bangin'" of the old Bristol track. Let's give it four or five more races before we decide whether we love it or hate it.

| Was that really Bristol? I know the wall said Bristol. But the racing wasnt. That was the most boring Bristol Race I ever saw. 125 laps to the first caution? The cars were too straight and not enough junk got hauled off the track. Some announcer said the COT's were built like tanks. Lets see more side to side contact and more "Rattleing of the cages". Then I am sure Bristol would be back to normal. |

| Re: Was that really Bristol? The track didn't fail the cars and drivers did. The track offered many many groves for racing. Lots of side by side. That is something Bristol never had. Before if cars were side by side that meant one was getting freight trained backwards. What this race lacked was side by side racing for the lead. I bet if there were a little more of that and maybe a close side by side finish people would be singing a different tune. The track is there for success. We just need the drivers and teams to catch up to it. Now that there is finally a top groove that you can race on I bet we will see some wild finishes in the future. |

One race is not a fair test of what a track is capable of; give it four or five more races - That's position here as well. Do believe however it will be good racin' but it will never be anything like the racing borne from the previous configuration. The "beatin' and bangin" just ain't necessary when there's more than (the previous) single groove. Ya no longer have to "demand" time on the ONLY race-able real estate. While enjoying the different racing presentation/style available with the new, there's going to be a desire to wish someone would build a replica of the old cause that racing presentation/style was pretty cool in it's own right. There's a "passing" that has taken place here that future generations of NASCAR followers will never really come to know and experience. All here saw, know, and enjoyed the "old Bristol". and there will come a time in each of our lives when we look at the "new" follower (10, 15, 20 years from now) of the sport and say - ya shoulda seen it before the late Summer of 07. Watched Bristol last night with the "amazement" long time followers of races there likely experienced. Running the top, looooong green flag runs, and "suddenly" a focus on the value of green pit stops. Wow, what a change. T - Good for you on the local track attendance. Each has a definition of "race fan". Mine requires local track enjoyment/understanding/involvement/attendance. Likely you already clearly know that's where we have and continue to spend the majority of our admission and participation $$. The "No more than 50 foot from the kitchen fridge, watch from the enclosure of four walls and a roof crowd" are, well ----- ah ----- well ----- ummmmm ----- well their kinda like ---- got it, got it - insulated from the real experience, yet in rare individual cases capable of good guesses and/or entertaining imaginings. The new Bristol will be fun. The old Bristol will be cherished, at least until the generation that experienced it is no more. |

| Re: The "New" Bristol Another small issue to keep in mind is that Goodyear did not bring a tire well suited for the track. Next year they should have a better tire plus the drivers and teams will have more time in the COT. I was content with the race but it could change next year. |

| Re: The "New" Bristol I don;t know what they had on TV, but it was a great race from the stands. There was a TON of racing, just not always form the leaders. Also, wasn't that a great three way battle, when Mikey was holding the 99.9 and the 8 hostage behind him!? Maybe with it being my first trip down there, I just don't want to admit it wasn't a good race. Personally, I don't think you need to pull cars off on Rollbacks, and drivers to the care center, for a great race. And Labonte got another top 10!! |
