Earnhardt Jr.: Time to give Teresa a break

Dale Earnhardt Jr. wants everyone to lay off Teresa Earnhardt, his stepmother who currently runs Dale Earnhardt Inc. Asked if he felt for the fans with the No. 8 tattoo now that he could not keep the number, Earnhardt Jr. said that he did feel pretty bad and that it was out of his control.
And then he asked people to cool down ongoing remarks directed at Teresa Earnhardt.

"I do want to say that I think it's about time we give Teresa a break," he said Friday at Bristol Motor Speedway. "She makes the decision on that number because she owns it and as much as I am disappointed and frustrated over the fact that I don't get to keep driving the No. 8, the stuff that I read on the Internet and the stuff that I'm hearing is going on, the remarks about her, directed toward her, I don't think anybody deserves that. If people just take a step back and look, she hasn't done anything intentionally detrimental to me.
"I've got a good future, I've got a good opportunity in my hands, she's doing what she feels like she needs to do and I just think everybody needs to lay off a little bit. She was married to my daddy and I know he wouldn't be too happy about it, what's going on, what's being said about her. It bothers me a little bit."

way to man up Jr. Just goes to show the fans are more upset over the number than he is. He's probably thinking too about how all the evil things being said are upsetting to his little sister.

Re: Earnhardt Jr.: Time to give Teresa a break

This is pretty much consistent with his expressed feelings/position throughout the whole process. The lack of maturity and appropriate respect existed predominately in the medidiots (blended word from - media and idiots) and the lemmings who followed them over the cliff.

The medidiots and their lemmings twisted Jr.'s comments into the "black" representation of what was going on. While he never really strayed in to the vindictive, demeaning, or discrediting, he did make the mistake of talking too much.

Try as they might (The medidiots and their lemmings), little could be wrested from Mrs. Earnhardt. Bravo!!

Real typical that the "mouth" in a situation will be seen above the "silent". Right? For each individually to decide and live with.

medidiots? I like it. I think it needs to be added to the GTG dictionary.

Re: Earnhardt Jr.: Time to give Teresa a break

Let me be the first to confess I've been unjustly harsh on Teresa for no good reason other than emotion.
But it didn't take Jr's comments today to make me realize that.
It took a couple of the fine people here at this forum to wake me up, and I'm very grateful for that.
And it took reading this powerful article I found:

Teresa Earnhardt Is No Villain

If Dale came down from heaven, he'd be ashamed of me for the stupid emotional Jr. wagon I jumped on.
I know I am.
Sorry!

Re: Earnhardt Jr.: Time to give Teresa a break

I am a huge Jr fan and I have to say that through this whole thing, I've gotten alittle sick of him and Kelly. They are the ones that made most everything public, when it shouldn't have been. And now that the fans are reacting to it, he wants to play good guy and say, no she don't deserve the comments and to be treated that way. Make up your mind Jr. One day ya'll say she's being spiteful and the next day ya'll say ya'll understand. I don't think Teresa's the one with the problem. I think it's 2 spoiled brats that has the problem.

No need to be sorry. We all allow our emotions to turn into opinions. I do think it's great when anyone can admit that their point of view may have been a wee bit off. I have far more respect for that than someone who sticks to an obviously incorrect statement. We're only mere mortals here. On more than one occasion I've changed how I view things due to someone else's point of view.

Re: Earnhardt Jr.: Time to give Teresa a break

I think alot of what Jr is saying now has to do with Taylor. I don't blame him for that. This article from Nascar.com shows where his concerns are:

"She's got a daughter that goes to school, that's got friends and she has to put up with that stuff. It's just hardcore, man.
"People have been really, really rude and really way over the line on some of the things that have been said. I know Teresa doesn't know half of it because she won't read it and she won't put up with it. If anybody in their right mind knew that was going on they wouldn't be around it and deal with it.
"But it still gets back to Taylor. Nobody deserves that. It ain't fair."

I wonder what that clown Riki Rachman has to say now, since he was leading that "Free the 8" campaign. Gawd I can't stand that guy!

My guess is that the only reason he is on the air is to appeal to that group of folks. For me he is a detriment but then I like racing and not celebrities.

Seem to recall Theresa suggested that perhaps Jr. would be best served were he to make decsion as to whether his focus would be race car driver or celebrity. Gotta tell ya, can darn near hear/see/imagine very same words coming out of Sr.'s mouth.

Well, Jr. made the choice. Now experiencing life in it. While we would never wish on anyone what is apparently something approaching abuse that Kelly is experiencing, can hope that Jr. figures out who the medidiots are and cut them from his available time. There are some who report that are fans and supporters of the sport, and then there are the medidiots looking to provide fodder for the life starved (as in "get a life") new "fan". Ricky Wreckman comes to mind as an example of one of the types.
