Never the kind of guy to beg for a ride, Kenny Wallace found himself nervously picking up the phone to call Teresa Earnhardt last week. Wallace had just been released from Furniture Row Racing, which came as a surprise to him. But shortly after the news broke Aug. 14 that the Denver, Colo.-based team was letting him go, Wallace swore he received 1,500 e-mails from fans suggesting that he try to drive Dale Earnhardt Inc.'s soon-to-be-vacant No. 8 car.
He called Teresa Earnhardt's secretary and left a message for the DEI owner, who once gave him a job filling in for the injured Steve Park: "This is Kenny Wallace. I have had over 1,500 e-mails - the fans are forcing me to call you to put my name in the hat.
"I realize you might not want me to drive the car, but please tell Teresa that there's been an uprising. I just want you to know I would love to drive the 8 car." Wallace hadn't heard back as of Saturday, but the point is this: Wallace said he isn't ready to fold his tent, and is actively searching for a Cup, Busch or even Craftsman Truck Series team to give him a full-time ride.

I hope he gets a full ride, one that has in his contract that he can't do TV on Speed. He's the reason I never watch the speed pre-show after-show. I can't believe somoene hasn't put a pillow over his head and smothered him because of that laugh.

truex, martin, menard. , namacheck would have been one to keep I would think.
kenny would do good there, but I don't think he BUD materail, is BUD leaving ??? buds gotta be on a car somewhere did they sign on for EMS yet ??

I think sponsor ship is what will determine who drives the 8 car.

Why wouldn't Kenny be Bud material? He would be a better match than the rumor of Bud going to Kasey Kane don't you think?

I just think bud would want a younger driver pushing thier brand.

what about TIDE where have they been, I always liked that car, even though I never really cared for the drivers.

DEI Cup drivers at this moment:

• Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
• Mark Martin
• Martin Truex, Jr.
• Paul Menard
• Aric Almirola

so, if ya kept Nemechek (35th in points, no sponsor), which do you get rid of?

• Dale Jr. is effectively gone;
• Mark Martin is part time, 18th in points and now in charge of driver development;
• Martin Truex, Jr. is in the Chase at 11th and has Bass Pro Shops sponsorship;
• Paul Menard is 36th in points but has his dad (Menards) complete backing;
• Aric Almirola is a development driver who shares the Army car driving duties and will also be competing in Busch (not likely Joe will want part time duties.)

Bud has not announced their intentions for next year, although the most popular rumor has them departing DEI for Kasey Kahne. It's not like they don't have a number of choices: being the most recognized sports sponsor in the world has it's advantages.

you're right .. he could .. but I don't think they want him .. not enough star power and Joe's not average or better on all kinds of tracks - just speedway and bigger.

Kenny has such a good personality and he still has some wins left in him yet. He doesn't have to beg for a job. If he doesn't he can always work for Speed he makes a good commenter.

I don't care for him a lot but if I had a choice between him and Spencer ... Jimmy would be gone in a second !!!
