Rudd Out Of 88 In 2008

After a season fraught with more struggles than successes, Ricky Rudd will step out of the No. 88 Snickers Ford at the end of the year.

Rudd, who turns 51 next month, will make his 898th start on Sunday. Only the King, Richard Petty has more career starts (1,185). But Rudd told team owner Robert Yates last week on the trip home from Watkins Glen he was not committed to running the full season in 2008.

"Out of fairness to him, I wanted to make sure that they understood that I wasn't bailing out on the team. They're headed in the right direction. The organization is showing improvement.

Now who does Yates try and recruit? Who's left that is good enough to jump into such a nice ride with a top orginization? Hopefully someone that can meld with the team and with Gilliland to give a shot in the arm.

Re: Rudd Out Of 88 In 2008

The team seems to still be able to turn out engines that endure and provide ample power.

The folks they've had as pilots over the past few seasons cannot be seen as 100% losers, has beens, whatever, by a long shot.

Have and continue to lean towards feeling there exist deficencies in the area of fielding a consistently competitive chassis. "Fielding" here encompasses designing/engineering, building, testing, setting, and adjusting.

Yates is using good (Roush) chassis, methinks "setting & adjusting" are their weak areas.

I would like to see Steven Leight (won the Kentucky Busch Race) or Jason Leftler get a cup ride
